Crete is one of my favorite islands - and I plan to visit again in a few months. I thought I would make a list of some of the foods I definitely plan to eat when there.

The of you who know about the island, do you have anything to add?

  • Dakos
  • Horta
  • Cretan "pitakia" (in the turnover dough)
  • Horiatiki
  • Pizza (sounds silly, but I love eating Pizza on Crete LOL)

You forgot the most important thing….. raki with your list of food.

Exploring Caves in Crete?

I love geology, and I’d love to experience a few caves while in Crete. Does anyone have recommendations for the best caves to visit? I’m especially interested in those with interesting myths or historical significance, but I’m also up for hidden gems that might be less crowded.

Additionally, I’d appreciate any tips on what to expect when visiting these caves—are guided tours necessary, or can some be explored on your own? Are there specific safety precautions I should be aware of?

Staying in a resort in Crete?

I’m planning a trip to Crete and looking for recommendations on luxury resorts. I’m after a place that offers beautiful views, high-end amenities, and an overall relaxing vibe. Ideally, I’d like a resort with a great spa, fine dining options, and easy access to the beach (preferably private or less crowded). I’ve heard that both Elounda and Agios Nikolaos are known for luxury accommodations, but I’m open to other locations around the island too.

If you’ve stayed at any luxury resorts in Crete, I’d love to hear your experiences. Which resorts stood out to you, and what made them special? I’m also curious about activities they offer, such as water sports, cultural tours, or anything unique that made your stay memorable.

Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions! I can’t wait to experience the best of what Crete has to offer!

Tips for Hiking the Samaria Gorge?

I'm planning a trip to Crete and am excited to hike the famous Samaria Gorge. I've heard it's an incredible experience, but also quite challenging. I'd love to get some tips from those who've done it before.

What should I pack for the hike? Are there any specific gear or essentials I shouldn't forget? How tough is the hike, and how long does it typically take? Any recommendations for the best time of day to start, or tips for pacing myself? Also, is there anything specific I should know about the terrain or weather conditions?

Any advice to help me prepare and make the most of this adventure would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tips for Visiting Imbros Gorge

I'm planning a trip to Crete and am really excited to hike Imbros Gorge! I did Samaria Gorge last time I was in Crete and absolutely loved it, so I’m keen to explore another beautiful trail. I’ve heard Imbros is shorter and a bit easier, but still offers stunning views.

For anyone who’s done the hike, do you have any tips for making the most of it? I’m curious about the best time to go (morning vs. afternoon), what kind of gear is recommended, and any must-see spots along the way. Also, how does the scenery compare to Samaria? I’d love to know if there are any hidden gems around the start or finish points, like a cozy taverna to relax in after the hike!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Advice for exploring the caves of Crete?

I'm planning a trip to Crete and I'm particularly excited about exploring the island's famous caves. I've heard that Crete has some stunning and historically significant caves, and I'd love to get some advice and recommendations from those who have visited.

Which caves are must-see and why? I've read about Zeus' Cave and the Cave of Psychro, but are there other hidden gems that are worth exploring? Also, what should I be aware of in terms of accessibility and safety? Are guided tours available and recommended, or is it better to explore on my own?

Additionally, any tips on the best times to visit these caves to avoid crowds, or any other insider advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to make the most of my cave explorations and would love to hear your experiences and suggestions!
