Greek Festival Season is Here!

I just wanted to share that I am so excited that Greek festival season is here! I tend to travel visiting family and friends throughout the United States and Canada during the warm weather time of year, for weddings and stuff. I have family in a few different places so have caught festivals all over the place.

One of my favorites is the Greek Summerfest in July in Vancouver. I also went to a big Greek festival in Chicago that I loved. Where is your favorite? I might want to visit!

Learning Greek percussion

I am a percussionist (hand drumming) and usually when I jam out with other Greek musicians, I usually play the bongos.

I decided that I want to learn the traditional Greek hand drums but the problem is, I don't know what the drums are called and where I can get one. I looked online but since I don't know what I am searching for, I couldn't find anything.

Not sure I would need lessons, but it would be nice to also have access to a resource that can show me some beats, or find a local musician.

When does Greek Lent start?

I know that Greek Easter is a week after Western Easter this year - sometime in Mid April. I actually observe Western Easter, but I love Greek cooking and culture, so I joined the forum.

I want to learn more about the religious side of things for Greeks. I know that lent is coming up, does anyone know when it starts? I am talking about Greek Lent. I might borrow some Greek lenten recipes as time goes on for my own lenten journey... But I will post on that when the time comes.

Best Greek Independence Day Parades?

I know Greek Independence Day is coming up. I am curious, where in the word are there the best celebrations? I don't have time to travel far this year, but I could keep in mind for next year.

What do people typically do in Greece for it? Are there parades? Where is the biggest parade? I know in the US there are typically parades in Chicago, New York, and Boston.

What to bring to church as a godparent during Christening?

I am so excited, I have just been asked to be a godmother. I know generally what is expected but I am trying to sort it all out. What is it that godparents need to bring to the Christening? I know that the priest usually provides a list but I want to start getting ahead of it. With Easter just behind us, I don't know how long it will be until I get the list. The Christening isn't for a few months, but I know that the church seems to be a bit behind and I have no idea how long it will be until I get the list!
