I’m planning a trip to Mykonos next summer and would love your advice on whether I should take a ferry or a flight from Athens. I’ve heard that both options have their pros and cons, but I’m struggling to decide.

For the ferry, I’ve read that it’s a scenic and more relaxed option, but how reliable is it? Are there frequent delays, especially during peak season? Also, would you recommend a high-speed ferry or the regular ones?

For the flight, I like that it’s much quicker, but I’m concerned about potential airport stress and extra transportation costs. Is it worth flying for the time saved, or do the ferry views make the journey more enjoyable?

Both options have their merits, so it depends on your priorities! The ferry offers a scenic, leisurely journey, especially if you enjoy the sea and the iconic blue views of the Aegean. High-speed ferries are faster (around 2.5–4 hours), but regular ones (5–6 hours) let you enjoy the ride longer, often with outdoor seating. Ferries can experience delays during peak season or rough weather, so build some flexibility into your schedule. Book tickets in advance and consider morning ferries, which are generally more punctual.

Flying is undoubtedly quicker, with the flight taking about 40 minutes. However, you’ll need to factor in airport transfers, check-in, and security, which can add time and stress. Flights are great if you’re short on time or want to avoid potential ferry delays.

If you’re a fan of relaxed travel and stunning views, go for the ferry. For speed and convenience, flying is the way to go.

I flew to Mykonos from Athens last summer and found the airport switch super quick—flight took about 40 minutes. To make the whole trip smoother, I booked through https://travelbusinessclass.com, which helped me sort everything out without overpaying. The ferry is fine too, but it just took way longer and felt like a full travel day. If you're short on time, flying made a big difference for me.

Quieter Beaches in Mykonos?

I'm gathering information for a cruise that I might book next year, and one of the ports would be Mykonos. I've heard a lot about the island's famous beach clubs and party atmosphere, but that's not really what I'm looking for.

If we only have a few hours during the cruise stop, are there any quieter beaches where it's possible to simply relax, enjoy the scenery, and maybe go for a swim without loud music and big crowds? I'd much rather have a peaceful experience than spend the afternoon at a party beach.

If the beaches are still very busy, what else would you recommend doing with limited time in Mykonos? I'd love to wander through the town, enjoy some local food, or see a few highlights. I'd appreciate any suggestions from people who've visited during a cruise stop.

Best Sunsets in Mykonos?

Much has been said about the sunsets in Santorini, and for the longest time I just assumed that was the place in Greece for sunset views. But recently, a friend came back from Mykonos and shared some absolutely gorgeous sunset photos, golden light over the water, soft colors, even the windmills in the background. I honestly had no idea Mykonos could look like that at sunset.

Now I’m curious if this is something people seek out there, or if it’s more of a hidden bonus compared to Santorini.

Do you have any favorite sunset spots on Mykonos? Are there specific beaches, viewpoints, or areas in town that really stand out? I’d love to hear recommendations before I start planning a trip.

Best viewpoints in Mykonos?

I’m in the early stages of planning a possible trip to Mykonos and have started researching the best viewpoints on the island. I know about the classic sunset spot near the windmills and Little Venice, but I’m wondering what other viewpoints are worth seeking out, especially ones that aren’t completely packed with crowds.

Are there any higher lookouts, coastal cliffs, quiet hills, or hidden spots where you can really take in the sea and the whitewashed buildings from above? I’d love both sunrise and sunset recommendations, whether they’re easy to reach or require a bit of walking or driving.

Also curious if any viewpoints are near beaches, chapels, or small tavernas where you can linger and enjoy the view longer.

If you’ve been to Mykonos, what viewpoint left the strongest impression on you?

Pros and Cons - Mykonos Town vs Staying Outside the Center

I’ve been to Mykonos a few times and have always stayed close to the center of Mykonos Town. It’s been convenient, especially for walking everywhere, being near restaurants, and not having to think too much about transportation.

That said, I’m considering going again and wondering if it might be worth staying outside the center this time. I’ve never done it, so I’m not sure what the experience is like in comparison.

For those who have stayed in both areas, how did it differ for you? Did you find it more relaxing outside of Town, or did the added logistics make things harder? I’m especially curious about getting around at night and whether it takes away from the overall experience.

Would you choose to stay outside the center again, or do you feel like being based in Town is still the better option?

One Week in Mykonos?

I'm thinking about spending a full week in Mykonos on a future trip, and I'd love some itinerary ideas. I've visited the island before, but only for short periods, mostly during cruise stops, so I know I've only scratched the surface.

With a full week, I'd like to slow down and experience more than just the well-known sights. I'd still want to wander through Mykonos Town, enjoy the beaches, and visit Delos, but I'm sure there are plenty of places and experiences I've missed over the years.

If you had seven days to spend on Mykonos, how would you divide your time? Are there quieter beaches, scenic drives, traditional tavernas, or lesser-known spots that you'd be sure to include? I'd love to hear how you would plan a week on the island and what you think shouldn't be missed.
