I am planning to visit Knossos Palace next summer and I am looking for suggestions. Should I book a guided tour in advance? How long should I plan to stay?

I have researched the area and I know I want to see all the sites I possibly can in the complex. I also heard that a lot of the artifacts aren't at the site - they're at the archaeological museum in Heraklion. So, if I want the full experience it sounds like I need to plan at least two days for this?

Any advice is appreciated!

The last time I saw this site, I did so from the hop on/ hop off bus. In Heraklion, this is a good option for seeing a bunch of sites because you can choose where you want to stop. They narrate while you're on the bus, as well. I just got off the bus and paid for my ticket - so other than that, there really isn't much else to do. I would suggest spending more than one day with the hop on/hop off bus if you want to see a lot of sites. I spent maybe four hours in the archaeological museum because I love that stuff, and that didn't leave a lot of time for much else. I guess it all takes planning - you can do Knossos and the museum together in the same day with careful planning, and it also doesn't have to be through the same bus tour I did.

Where can I eat Cretan food outside of Crete?

Cretan cuisine is some of the best that I’ve ever tried. I don’t visit the island too often, but I do visit mainland Greece. I have two young kids, and the trip to Athens is already enough for them. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations on Cretan cuisine in Athens or Attiki specifically, but anywhere else on the mainland would do (Corinth for example). I would love to try out some spots. 😊

Best photo spots on Crete?

I am planning a trip to Crete this year and I am wondering where some of the best places to take photos might be. Someone recommended that I should hike the Samaria gorge and take photos along the way because the scenery is amazing, but I am not sure I am up for that. I also know that I could take a ferry to the end and then hike into the gorge someone and take photos from that perspective. Besides that spot, where else can I go? I am looking for a combination of nature and city type shots. I see a lot of photos of Chania that I love so I will put that on my list.

Great Area in Crete for a Wedding?

Some of you may remember that I am planning a wedding in Greece. So excited!

I think I might want to look at the island of Crete for it because my guest list will likely be pretty large, and I feel like the island has a ton of options and things to do.

Now, I am wondering which area to focus on. Chania? Heraklion? Something else? Most of the guest list will be coming from other places, so we will need a large enough area with plenty of options for places to stay and things to do.

Visiting Theriso on Crete.. Advice?

Lately I have heard so much about Theriso and how great it is, particularly the food. It seems like it is a "must visit" on Crete. What do you guys think? Do you have any advice for me? I have been looking into Cretan cuisine and wanting to collect information for my next trip to Greece.

Guided Hikes Down the Samarian Gorge?

I am thinking of putting the Samaria Gorge on my Greek Bucket List but I feel like I need more information. In my research, I can see that one should start at the top, hike down, and then allow some time to explore the village at the end and get something to eat, maybe even sit at the beach. So, this seems like an all day thing? It seems totally doable and I am in decent shape, but I am nervous and need more information.

Are there any guided tours that will take me through the process?
