Recommendations for the best hikes on Corfu?

I'm currently planning a trip to the beautiful island of Corfu and have heard that it's a paradise for hikers and nature lovers alike. With its stunning landscapes, the Ionian sea's mesmerizing views, and lush trails winding through ancient olive groves, I'm eager to explore some of the island's best hiking trails.

That being said, I'm reaching out to this wonderful community for the insights and experiences of those who have tread these paths before me. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or someone who enjoys leisurely walks amidst nature, I would love to hear your recommendations on finding a good hiking trail. I'd prefer it to be scenic, and it shouldn't be too hard. Other than that, I am open to just about anything!

I have some ideas. I asked a friend - I have never been to Corfu:
  • The Corfu Trail: Stretching the length of the island, this trail offers a comprehensive Corfu experience but requires several days to complete. Has anyone here tackled it entirely or in segments?
  • Mount Pantokrator: The highest peak on the island, offering panoramic views. I'm looking for tips on the best time of day to start and any hidden gems along the way.
  • Agios Georgios to Porto Timoni: A shorter, more leisurely hike leading to a stunning double bay. Anyone tried swimming there?
  • The Erimitis Area: Known for its biodiversity and scenic beauty, with trails leading to secluded beaches.

What is Corfu like in September?

I’ve been thinking about visiting Corfu in September instead of the middle of summer, and I was curious what it’s actually like that time of year. I’ve heard mixed things from people. Some say September is the perfect balance because the weather is still warm but the crowds start to calm down a bit, while others say certain places begin slowing down after August.

For anyone who has been there in September, how was your experience? Was the water still warm enough for swimming? Were restaurants, beach bars, and boat tours still operating normally? I’m also wondering if the island still feels lively or if it becomes noticeably quieter.

I’d probably be going sometime in the first half of September if I do go. Would you recommend it over July or August? Any advice or experiences would really help while I’m trying to plan.

Corfu beaches locals actually go to?

I’m starting to think seriously about a trip to Corfu, and I’d love some local insight before I get too deep into planning.

When I travel, I’m much more drawn to places that feel lived-in rather than curated for visitors. I’m not really looking for beach clubs, rows of umbrellas, or spots chosen mainly because they photograph well. What I love most are beaches where locals actually spend time, like places you might stop at after work, go with family on a Sunday, or return to year after year without much fuss.

Are there beaches in Corfu that still feel like that? Maybe quieter coves, less obvious stretches of sand, or spots that don’t show up on every “top ten” list? I’m happy to trade amenities for atmosphere. I’d really appreciate hearing which beaches locals gravitate toward.

Advice Needed - North Corfu vs. South Corfu

I'm thinking about visiting Corfu either this summer or next year, and I'm trying to decide whether I'd prefer staying in the northern or southern part of the island.

From what I've read, North Corfu seems to have dramatic scenery, picturesque villages, and places like Paleokastritsa and Sidari. On the other hand, South Corfu sounds quieter, less crowded, and maybe a bit more relaxed overall.

I enjoy beautiful beaches, local tavernas, scenic drives, and wandering through villages, but I'm not really looking for a nightlife-focused trip. I'd rather experience the island at a slower pace and get a feel for the local atmosphere.

For those who have visited Corfu, which part of the island did you prefer and why? If you were planning your first trip, would you stay in the north, the south, or split your time between both? I'd love to hear your recommendations.

Liston Promenade - What to See?

I’m planning some time in Corfu Town and keep seeing the Liston Promenade mentioned as a must-see spot. I understand it’s one of the most well-known areas, but I’m trying to get a better sense of what to actually look for while I’m there.

Is it more about the atmosphere and architecture, or are there specific landmarks, cafés, or details that stand out? I’ve seen photos of the arcades and the open square nearby, but I don’t want to just pass through without really appreciating it.

Would you recommend going at a certain time of day to get the full experience? And are there any spots along the promenade that are easy to miss but worth noticing?

Best Sunset Spot on Corfu?

I'm hoping to visit Corfu in late summer, and one thing I'd really love to do is spend an evening watching the sunset from a café or taverna. I'm not necessarily looking for the biggest tourist hotspot. I'd much rather find a place where I can relax, enjoy a good meal or a glass of wine, and take in the view without feeling rushed.

If you've been to Corfu, where would you recommend? Are there any restaurants, tavernas, or waterfront cafés with particularly beautiful sunset views? I'm happy to drive if it's worth it, and I don't mind venturing outside Corfu Town if there are quieter spots with amazing scenery.

I'd also love to hear whether reservations are a good idea for sunset dining in late summer, or if it's usually easy enough to find a table. Thanks for any recommendations!
