I want to start discovering some new places to enjoy in Greece - or maybe even rediscover old favorites. I go to Greece fairly often - not quite every year - but I try to go as much as possible. I thought I would make a list of my favorite places. I want to hear about yours, as well!

- Chania, Crete - It's historical, beautiful, and there are some great area beaches. Crete is wonderful.
- Oia, Santorini - so charming
- When I am in a party mood, Super Paradise Beach on Mykonos
- Acropolis in Athens
- Rhodes - it's a beautiful island!

Let's see..

I also love Chania in Crete. In fact, I love the whole island.

I also love exploring the Athens area beyond the city center. Like, I alway make it a point to head to Sounion when in that area to catch the Temple of Poseidon at sunset.

Syros-another dimension on a very beautiful island!.... You know when one loves that feeling which is indescribable...thats how I always felt about Syros....I used to spend many hours alone at the harbour seafront cafenions. ...Been many times of course, lived there for a short time too!
Crete,as mentioned previously....all over!
Fokos beach and Fragia beach in Mykonos!...and Kapari beach! ⛱️⛱️

My favorite place is our village. Why? Because it's in the middle of nowhere, so no one speaks English which means there are no tourists!

Outside of the village, I really enjoy ioannina, trikala, and volos.

Best places in Greece to see the Venetian influences?

I am interested in the Venetian influences that are interwoven into certain parts of the country. From the architecture to the local customs, I understand that the reach of the Venetian Republic left a notable mark that can still be felt today.

I'm in the midst of planning an itinerary focused on exploring these influences and I’d love to hear from you about the must-visit spots where one can best experience the essence of the Venetian presence in Greece.

Do any of you have recommendations for specific towns, buildings, ruins, or even local festivities that embody this cultural blend? Any hidden gems or lesser-known locations that surprised you with their Venetian charm?

Of course, I expect Crete, with its famed Venetian fortresses and the romantic old town of Chania, to be part of this list. But I'm certain there is a wealth of places, perhaps on other islands or on the mainland, which equally showcase this unique period of history. I also know there are influences in Corfu. Is there anywhere else?

Finding Good Food Tours of Greece?

I love Greek cuisine. I cook it all the time and I love trying new recipes. The time has come for me to think about planning a food tour! Does anyone have any advice?

I would love to hear from members of this forum about their experiences with food tours in Greece.
  1. Which regions or cities offer the best food tours?
  2. Any specific food tour companies or guides that you would recommend?
  3. What were some of the standout dishes or culinary experiences on your tour?
  4. Are there options for people with dietary restrictions, such as vegetarians?
  5. What should one expect in terms of cost and duration?
Any tips or advice on how to get the most out of such a tour would be greatly appreciated too! Thanks!

Travel Tips for Naxos

I'm planning a trip to the island of Naxos soon and I'm reaching out for some guidance and tips.

First off, I've heard that Naxos is a haven for foodies – any recommendations on local foods I absolutely must try or the best places to eat?

Exploring the cultural heritage of Naxos is also high on my agenda. I understand there are plenty of historical sites and ruins that abound. For those of you who've wandered the island's ancient paths, which historical spots would you say I need to see??

Also, I’d love to hear about your favorite beaches. Are there any hidden gems I should know about? Places that aren’t too crowded perhaps?

Thanks!

Sustainable Travel to Greece?

I'm currently planning a trip to Greece and am passionate about making my travel as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. Given the beauty and historical significance of Greece, I want to ensure that my visit contributes positively to the environment and local communities there.

Does anyone have any tips or experiences they could share on sustainable travel practices in Greece? I'm looking for advice on everything from eco-friendly accommodations, sustainable dining options, to ways of exploring the country that minimize my carbon footprint. Also, if there are specific activities or tours that support local conservation efforts or communities, I'd love to hear about those too!
