Lycabettus hill is one of the best spots to hang out in Greece hands down! The view is phenomenal and absolutely breathtaking, I highly recommend that you take the cable car and go to the top to see the entire city of Athens. There is a small church and restaurant/cafe at the top where you can pay your respects and relax and have a cool drink. Have you ever been? Do you have any recommendations on going? Cheers!

Absolutely agree! When in Athens, I stay at accommodation 5mins walk from Lycabettus. My partner and I start our day by climbing up the hill in the morning for our daily exercise. It's more rewarding walking up as you get better views along the way than with the cable car. There is also another interesting church on the way up called Saint Isidores which is a rock cave church. Also while walking you may come across the wildlife such as the tortoises that populate the area.

There are some stunning views at this spot. I imagine sunrise or sunset would be lovely here!

Lykavitos is a must visit if you're a tourist in Athens.

Best Shopping in Athens

My wife and I are going to Greece in a few days. We both like to shop (her more than me) but we've never actually had enough time in Athens to explore the shopping.

Where should we go?

Someone told us Monastiraki is a good choice, but are there other places? We'll have a few days to poke around.

Public Transportation System in Athens

Can anyone give me some advice on the public transportation system in Athens, Greece?

I will be staying in Piraeus but will need to get around. I'll want to visit Acropolis area, as well as several other of the Athens neighborhoods.

Churches to visit for Liturgy in Athens

I'll be in Athens soon, and I would like to go to church! I am trying to find a church that has liturgy that is preferably by my hotel. I am staying in the Plaka.

Do any pop you know if any of these are good?

Monastery of Daphni – The Monastery of Daphni is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located just outside of Athens.

Agios Nikolaos Rangavas Church – This church is located in the heart of Athens and is considered one of the most beautiful religious buildings in the city.

Metropolis Cathedral – The Metropolis Cathedral is the largest and most historic church in Athens, with a rich history that dates back over a thousand years.

The Church of the Holy Apostles – This Byzantine church dates back to the 10th century and is considered one of the best-preserved examples of Byzantine architecture in Greece.

St. Irene’s Church – St. Irene’s Church is located in the heart of Athens and is considered one of the oldest Byzantine churches in the city.

Fun Side Trips While Staying in Athens

I've been to Athens. I have done side trips from Athens. Still, I love Rick Steve's work and I found this interesting! He visited some of the places I've seen, but frankly, he made me want to see them again. This was a fun watch!

One of the places I haven't been that he mentioned is Hydra. Such a cool-looking place.

Athens airport question...

There's a group of us going to Athens and our flights get in the same day, but at different times.

Is there an easy spot to wait for the rest of our group outside of security, like a cafe or restaurant, or even an area with chairs to sit... I have only been to this airport once, and I don't remember any details about what happens after security.
