Where can I find a small picturesque village in Greece?

I'm looking for a small village to visit and get a taste of true authentic Greek culture, kind of like the one in the picture below. Where can I find something untouched by tourists?

If you're looking for untouched islands I would recommend Hydra and Milos!! They're smaller islands that don't have too much hustle and bustle

Pilio is amazing! It's close to Volos, Greece and ahs some of the most beautiful and picturesque villages in the whole country

It is not easy to find villages untouched by tourists; one has to go to remote places. However, Pilio while it is known, its unique as it has beautiful mountain villages that are also a short drive from beautiful beaches.

Koroni (Peloponnese, Messinia) is quite untouched and close to there is a truly authentic village named Vassilitsi.

The mountain villages above Volos were so fun to see and visit. You would need a car but it was and experience I wont forget and well worth it. Did some hiking up there as well. At one point we even visited a ski village which surprised me, that was after visiting Delphi. Driving the mainland was stunning!

I second the request above recommending Hyrda. Automobiles aren't allowed, and the island seems relatively untouched by time. It's the way Greece was roughly 100 years ago.

Having lived in Mykonos Greece, worked in Tourism industry and travelled extensively all over there are so many choices....Crete.... but go Inland across off the main roads which all lead to off touristy places..... You will be surprised at the hospitality.... Pretty little restaurants with oven cooking, quant seaside towns(Panormos Beach my favourite)....I love Syros, the mother island of the Cyclades, easy to navigate and plenty of seaside like the image with tavernas on the beach and nice atmosphere.... island hopping would be another experience.... Just plan carefully, plenty of connections, they are just getting organised with interisland travel protocols as I write...... Enjoy your time..

Syros is a great option! You don't hear much about the island so I'm assuming its less popular. Where in the island did you stay?

I have a friend who has a villa at Megalio Amos.He has Airbnb apartments facing sea with amazing views.....Vari is my favourite beach.....I don't know if we are allowed to post links here are we?

Here it is in Azolimnos..... My friend Costa and Peggy are one of the best people who have been my friends for over 30 years....need I say more?..

Last-minute travel tips in Greece

I love to travel to Greece and I do so whenever I can. There's an art to it, though, and I am never really going into it "blind". It's a good idea to start by thinking generally about where you might want to go.

Athens is usually the starting point for most travelers, with its iconic Acropolis offering panoramic views and a history lesson all in one spot. If you're a beach lover, head towards the Cyclades for stunning beaches and the classic, postcard-worthy Santorini sunsets. Or, if it's history you're after, the ruins of Delphi or the ancient city of Mycenae will surely captivate you.

Then, we need to figure out how to get where we want to go. For island hopping, the ferries are an experience in themselves – though if you're time-strapped, consider a local flight to get you to the major islands quickly. On the mainland, a mix of car rentals and public transport can be efficient and economical, especially when visiting sites off the tourist map. Keep an eye on the schedules and book in advance if possible to save time.

Sometimes I rent a car, to be honest it's the easiest for me.

The rest of the details tend to sort themselves out. For example, you can book your lodging as you go along, especially off-peak.

Is Marathon a good day trip from Athens?

I've been planning an itinerary for my upcoming trip to Athens, and I've always been fascinated by the historical significance of Marathon. Considering its role in ancient history and the famous battle that took place there, it seems like a place that might be worth a visit.

However, I'm on the fence about dedicating a whole day trip to Marathon. From what I understand, it isn’t too far from Athens, but I'm trying to weigh up whether the experience is worthy compared to spending that time exploring more within the city itself.

Has anyone made the day trip to Marathon from Athens? Was it an enriching experience, and what are the can't-miss sights? Is the archeological site/museum there engaging enough for a history buff? Also, how about the logistics – is it easy to get to by public transport, or would you suggest renting a car or going with a tour?

I am just trying to decide if it's worth it, or if I should plan to stay overnight. Thanks!

Travel Tips for Naxos

I'm planning a trip to the island of Naxos soon and I'm reaching out for some guidance and tips.

First off, I've heard that Naxos is a haven for foodies – any recommendations on local foods I absolutely must try or the best places to eat?

Exploring the cultural heritage of Naxos is also high on my agenda. I understand there are plenty of historical sites and ruins that abound. For those of you who've wandered the island's ancient paths, which historical spots would you say I need to see??

Also, I’d love to hear about your favorite beaches. Are there any hidden gems I should know about? Places that aren’t too crowded perhaps?

Finding Good Food Tours of Greece?

I love Greek cuisine. I cook it all the time and I love trying new recipes. The time has come for me to think about planning a food tour! Does anyone have any advice?

Canyoning Bled Slovenia

Hi guys!!
I'm planning to take a group canyoning Bled but apparently, it is obligatory to use a local guide. I am a canyon instructor (caf and ffme), is this enough to supervise without anyone else? I have several years of experience (climbing and canyoning) and it is obvious that I will not be able to offer this destination if it is not possible.
