Where is the best place in Greece to travel for people with mobility disabilities?

My friend uses a wheelchair and we're wondering which parts of Greece are wheelchair friendly. Does anyone have experience with this? Traveling abroad sometimes can pose an issue unfortunately
 
I would recommend choosing among the larger islands such as Crete and Corfu, where a variety of accommodation will be available and where you can rent a car to go to the beaches and mountain villages. Some beaches in Greece now have ramps specifically for disabled people. This is a fairly new service, but you might be able to research a list of them. Hills and cobblestones are a way of life in Greece, but when the going gets tough, (unlike other countries) there will always be someone to jump up and help without even having to ask! ????

If you fly between islands via Athens,Aegean Airlines has a very efficient wheelchair transfer service. Just be sure to add the wheelchair request when you book your tickets.

Another thought…..whatever accommodation you book, (since you won’t have stayed there before) I would contact the hotel directly and make sure that you are getting a handicapped accessible room. Photos can be deceiving - both in terms of the rooms and the actual location of the hotel!

Thank you so much for posting these lovely replies. This is so helpful as I've never had to think of this until I decided to travel friend. I will look into bigger islands and I assume that the hotels will try their best to be as accommodating as possible :)

No experience with wheelchair friendly travel and from the places I have been, I can tell that some parts of Greece might be challenging. I would find a hotel that is wheelchair accessible and see if your vacation comes together from there. My one family member who traveled to Greece with a wheelchair had a frustrating time, but the group went way off the beaten track looking for a village where the man's father was born (in the middle of the Peloponnese).

Ferry vs flying between islands, what’s better?

I’ve always been a ferry guy when it comes to Greece, something about pulling into a port and seeing the island come into view just feels right. But this trip is a little different because I’m traveling with someone who gets pretty motion sick, so now I’m seriously considering flying between islands instead.

Curious what you guys think, ferry vs flying, what’s actually better?

I know ferries are part of the whole island-hopping experience, and they’re usually more flexible, but I’ve also had a couple rough rides when the water wasn’t calm. On the flip side, flights seem quicker and smoother, but maybe more hassle overall.

I've been fortunate enough to visit Greece quite a few times over the years, and recently a friend asked me for advice before their very first trip. It surprised me how difficult it was to answer!

Once you've traveled somewhere often, you start taking a lot of things for granted. I'm not sure what the most helpful tips would be for someone experiencing Greece for the first time.

If you were helping a first-time visitor, what advice would you give? I'm thinking about practical things, cultural etiquette, transportation, money, restaurants, pacing an itinerary, or even little things you wish someone had told you before your first visit.

What are the biggest mistakes first-time visitors make, and what are some experiences you think every newcomer should have? I'd love to pass along some advice from people with firsthand experience.

Why do some score tracking platforms show delayed match updates?

Been tearing my hair out lately trying to follow live matches because some score‑tracking apps update super fast while others lag like they’re stuck in another century. I’m talking minutes behind, not seconds. It’s driving me nuts, especially when I’m juggling fantasy leagues and friendly bets with my buddies. I keep switching between apps hoping one will magically work better, but no luck so far. Is this just bad servers, licensing stuff, or am I using the wrong platforms altogether? My family and I are starting to think about a possible trip to Greece in 2026, and this time we’re considering planning part of the trip around a festival or cultural celebration. We’ve been to Greece before, but we’ve never really organized a trip around a specific event.

I know Greece has so many interesting traditions throughout the year. Because of that, I’m starting to gather ideas early while we figure out where we might want to go.
