It just gets waaayyyy too hot up there to be visiting during peak sun hours. Unless you want to melt, don't visit the Acropolis mid-day.

This is amazing advice and I totally agree. Going in the middle of the day will give you a heat stroke. And there's no water at the top of the Acropolis LOL

It really does get too hot, especially in July and August. Parthenon should be visited early in the day. There are some nice restaurants in the Plaka. Many of those have shade - if you can get out of the sun you can enjoy those restaurants no matter what time of day it is.

Plaka definitely has some of the best restaurants in Athens, most of them have great views, good food, and fast service.

We went once (I've been many times-it's never been too bad) on a Sunday afternoon and it was almost empty.

This is very good advice - it gets so hot in the summer during the later part of the day, and it's busy!

Visiting the Cycladic Museum

Though I will be in Mykonos for a while when I come to Greece (soon!) I will have some time in Athens.

I will be tied up with wedding festivities on Mykonos, but I will have some time. So, I want to learn about the history and culture of the island. I know there has to be more to it there than all the parties and the beach scene.

I plan to visit the Cycladic Museum in Athens to get ready. Is there anything I should keep in mind while I explore the museum?

Public Transportation System in Athens

Can anyone give me some advice on the public transportation system in Athens, Greece?

I will be staying in Piraeus but will need to get around. I'll want to visit Acropolis area, as well as several other of the Athens neighborhoods.

Unique Photo Spots in Athens?

I will be traveling to Athens this year in the spring. What are some great photo spots throughout the city? Aside from what inspires me?

I have a bad habit of forgetting to take pics while away and I come back from the vacation with a random collection. This time, I want to do some advanced planning. Some of my ideas:

- Parthenon/ Acropolis - A shot with people and the Parthenon in the background
- Food photos - plenty of shots with people - and table shots - and of myself - eating the delicious food
- Monastiraki - This place is full of life - there could be some great candid shots

Do you guys have any ideas?

Should you come to Athens in the winter?

I have never been to Greece in winter and I was considering it. I found this video - it was very informative! Thought I'd share:

Athens airport question...

There's a group of us going to Athens and our flights get in the same day, but at different times.

Is there an easy spot to wait for the rest of our group outside of security, like a cafe or restaurant, or even an area with chairs to sit... I have only been to this airport once, and I don't remember any details about what happens after security.
