Hi guys, i've been following the covid situation in Greece pretty carefully because I really want to visit this year. They just announced that people have to quarantine in their hotel or in a home for 7 days. Does anyone have any ideas about what this will be like? Or have any ideas about how to make this bearable?

Try getting an Airbnb instead of a hotel and stocking up on groceries. Many hotels in Greece don't have room service, and food delivery like ubereats isn't popular in Greece like other countries. Your best bet is to be comfy in a nice rental home. Good luck! And try to get some fresh air.

Hello, the quarantine recommendation won't be a requirement after May.

Wow!! That's such a weight lifted off my shoulders, thank God (I'll still be super careful tho)

It was the same last year and even know some travelers are excluded from this (from Israel)

People who I know that have gone to Greece during these times have found it no big deal to quarantine, BUT they've actually had relatives there to stay with. I do know, however, that the officials have been very strict about enforcing the quarantine. Staying in an AirBnB on the beach and getting delivery sounds great. However, that would mean you need to stay multiple weeks to feel fulfilled... I know Celestyal Cruises are starting in May...if you took a cruise, I'm wondering if you have to quarantine before getting on the ship. It will be interesting to see how the travel industry is going to deal with all this.

Hmmm...that's an interesting point. I'm also curious about the cruises (I feel like they might make an exception). Although I would be very careful on a cruise ship and only consider going if you're vaccinated. It might be difficult to receive medical attention if you're going from small island to small island.

Usually cruise ships have a doctor on board equipped to take care of emergencies. Although I so want to visit our ancestors' villages, we just haven't wanted to go through all the stress of figuring out how to get there and where to stays even before the pandemic. As a result, we've gone on several cruises to Greek islands, but it just doesn't cut it staying in the likes of Santorini for 9 hours before having to move on. We've become cruise people. However, I hope to figure out how to comfortably do more mainland travel.

I just heard that the Tourism Minister in Greece recently said: “Tourists will be welcome if, before travel, they are either vaccinated or have antibodies or test negative.” Seems like getting fully vaccinated before you go is the easiest approach.

Favorite small towns in Greece?

I realized recently that some of my favorite places in Greece haven’t actually been the major destinations everyone talks about, but smaller towns that just had a completely different atmosphere to them.

Sometimes it’s a mountain village with one main square and old stone houses, other times it’s a tiny coastal town where everyone seems to know each other and life moves slower. A few of the places I still think about most weren’t even places I had originally planned to visit.

I’m curious what small towns or villages have really stayed with people after traveling in Greece. Could be because of the scenery, the food, the people, the history, or just the overall feeling of the place.

Would love to hear everyone’s favorites, especially places that don’t always make the typical travel lists.

Best Way to Get a Car Service to JFK Airport Before a Flight to Greece?

Hi everyone, I'm flying out of JFK next month for a trip to Greece and trying to figure out the best way to get to the airport without the usual stress. My flight leaves early in the morning, and I don't want to deal with parking for two weeks or ask a family member to drive me at 4 a.m. I've been looking into booking a car service to JFK Airport instead of a rideshare, mainly because international flights need more buffer time, and I'd rather have a proper chauffeur waiting curbside than risk a driver cancelling at the last minute with all my luggage in tow. A friend of mine recently used Blue Nile Livery for a JFK run and said her chauffeur showed up early, helped load the bags, and tracked the flight the whole way, so she suggested I try them for this trip too.
I'm still trying to figure out whether it's worth booking the chauffeur service a few days in advance or if that's overkill for a domestic pickup, whether a sedan is fine or if an SUV is smarter given how much luggage most of us end up hauling back and forth to Greece, and if anyone has had a chauffeur reroute or adjust pickup timing because of a flight delay before an international departure. For those of you who fly out of JFK often for trips back to Greece, what's worked best for you, and is there a chauffeur service you'd genuinely recommend for an early morning run like this? Any tips appreciated!

Ferry vs flying between islands, what’s better?

I’ve always been a ferry guy when it comes to Greece, something about pulling into a port and seeing the island come into view just feels right. But this trip is a little different because I’m traveling with someone who gets pretty motion sick, so now I’m seriously considering flying between islands instead.

Curious what you guys think, ferry vs flying, what’s actually better?

I know ferries are part of the whole island-hopping experience, and they’re usually more flexible, but I’ve also had a couple rough rides when the water wasn’t calm. On the flip side, flights seem quicker and smoother, but maybe more hassle overall.

If you’ve done both, what would you recommend, especially in a situation like this? Is flying the smarter move, or are ferries still worth it if you plan carefully?

Is Greece easy to travel around without renting a car?

I’m trying to figure out whether it’s realistic to travel around Greece without renting a car. I’d prefer not to drive if I can avoid it, especially since I’m not familiar with the roads, parking, or driving customs there.

For those who have traveled around Greece using public transportation, how easy was it? I know there are buses, ferries, taxis, and domestic flights, but I’m wondering how practical they are once you get outside the main tourist areas. Did you ever feel limited by not having a car?

I’m also curious whether it makes sense to rely on public transportation for most of the trip and just rent a car for a day or two when needed. Are there certain types of places that are especially difficult to reach without one?

I’d love to hear from anyone who has done a Greece trip mostly or entirely without driving.

Festivals of Note for 2026 in Greece?

My family and I are starting to think about a possible trip to Greece in 2026, and this time we’re considering planning part of the trip around a festival or cultural celebration. We’ve been to Greece before, but we’ve never really organized a trip around a specific event.

I know Greece has so many interesting traditions throughout the year. Because of that, I’m starting to gather ideas early while we figure out where we might want to go.

Have any of you traveled to Greece specifically to experience a festival? If so, which ones would you recommend? It could be religious celebrations, food festivals, music events, or local village festivals.
I’d love to hear about any memorable festival experiences that might help us shape our 2026 plans.
