Is there gluten free food in Greece?

Good point. If you're eating at tavernas, maybe stick to meat. I would say it's the least likely to have come in contact with gluten

How can I have a COVID safe baptism?

Thanks for the advice! I guess I just have to find a priest who's a bit more modern, and maybe help with the setup lol

What are you favorite Greek drinks?

What are everyone's favorite Greek drinks? I love an ice cold fanta after a gyro

Do you have a favorite area in Crete to visit?

Do you recommend visiting Sitia? What's it like??

Can I get around Corfu without a car?

Yes!! I've used their public bus system too and it was a really good place to chat and bump into other tourists, have fun!

Should I get a Greek passport?

I found it pretty useful because I'm able to travel around Europe very easily. If you don't think you'll be travelling to Europe, I wouldn't really recommend it. The Australian passport is pretty useful and can get you most places without a tourist visa. If that ever changes, I would look into...

How can I have a COVID safe baptism?

I was asked to be a nona (godmother), and I'm helping my best friend plan the baptism for her firstborn son. We're so excited but we want a lot of her family members to be present. I know technically baptisms are supposed to be held inside the church, but has anyone heard of baptisms being...

Has anyone been to the Santorini cultural village?

I'm definitely on the same page. The village had a lot of exhibits about folk culture, for costumes, artifacts, paintings, and even harvesting tools. It was really interesting to see what the island was like before became a tourist destination.

Tips on fasting for sarakosti (lent)?

Hey everyone, I usually don't fast before Easter but I'd like to try this year. Does anyone have any tips for a beginner?

Best places in Athens for a shopaholic?

Athinas street is a bit more casual, but still has some of the best shopping. It’s more affordable and will have some more authentic fashion choices, not like any chain stores you’ll find all around Europe.

How can I make xorta (horta) or greens outside of Greece?

That’s such a good question! I love xorta and they’re soo good for you. Technically, there are two popular types of Greek xorta (vlita and radikia). Radikia are also known as dandelion greens are much easier to find oustide of Greece. You might have to go to a local farmers market and ask around.

Have you rescued the donkeys in Corfu?

I loved visiting the donkey rescue. The tourist industry can be a bit damaging to the island, and the animals who live on it. A lot of them are suffering because they're working long hours, and the handler's or the tourists mistreat them. It was a great visit, and I would definitely go again on...

    What makes Greek pita Greek?

It doesn't quite look like the picture you posted, it's more like the one in the gyro picture below. It does get confusing, especially if you don’t have any Greek supermarkets nearby and you’re buying from American supermarkets or middle eastern or general european supermarkets. Greek pita is...

What is the best way to experience the history of Thessaloniki?

I remember a while back my ex-boyfriend and I went to the Panagia Chalkeon church. The church was finished in 1028, so it’s a real piece of history.

Is the baklava cheesecake worth the hype?

I agree... the best way to eat baklava is with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I don't think that baklava and cheesecake would mix very well. Maybe a classic cheesecake with some walnuts on top would taste good, but I think adding phyllo and syrup would make it way too sweet.

What is the best way to make a gyro at home?

I agree, especially if you want to get a classic pork gyro. Chicken souvlaki is a bit easier to make at home, but the consistency of actual gyro is super hard to replicate.

What are the must try Greek foods for my trip?

You’ll have to go to more takeout or homestyle type places to get this type of food. I would suggest trying youvetsi, stifado, and bamies (okra). Those are my favorites.

    Cruising in Greece in 2021?

I've never taken a cruise in Europe, only in the Caribbean using Norwegian Cruises and I was really happy! I highly recommend them

Memories of growing up Greek in the USA

Wow thank you for sharing, what an incredible story. It's hard to keep our culture strong, especially when we're in the states and don't have the luxury of traveling to Greece often. It's so nice to see others keeping up with their Greek in their adulthood. My parents are from Greece but I...
