I'm planning a trip to Santorini and I’m super excited about exploring the local food scene! I've heard the island has some amazing dining options, from traditional Greek tavernas to fine dining with stunning views.

Do you have any recommendations for must-visit restaurants or hidden gems? Whether it's a place with incredible sunset views, the best moussaka, or a spot known for fresh seafood, I'd love to hear your suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your tips!

Santorini has some fantastic dining spots. For an unforgettable sunset dinner, try Oia's Kastro restaurant. The views are breathtaking, and the seafood is fresh and delicious. If you're craving authentic Greek cuisine, Metaxi Mas in Exo Gonia is a local favorite – their moussaka is top-notch. For a unique experience, visit Selene in Pyrgos; it's renowned for its creative dishes using local ingredients. Taverna Katina in Amoudi Bay has incredible seafood right by the water. Finally, Argo in Fira offers both great views and amazing food.

I usually mix fancy spots with low-key tavernas, and the sunset views around Oia or Imerovigli tend to make any meal feel next level. While it’s not Greek, trying places with a creative twist like https://boda.restaurant/ made me appreciate how fun fusion food can be, so I always keep an eye out for Santorini spots that play with flavors in a fresh way.

Santorini has some incredible dining spots, especially in Oia and Imerovigli where the sunset views add so much to the experience. I recommend trying local dishes like fava, grilled octopus, and fresh seabream. Smaller family tavernas often serve the most authentic food, and reservations help a lot during busy evenings in peak travel season.

How was the airport experience in Santorini?

I’ve been to Santorini a few times, but I’ve always arrived and departed by ferry, never by plane. For my next trip, I’m thinking about flying in or out, depending on how the itinerary shapes up, and I’d love to hear from those of you who’ve actually used the Santorini airport.

How was your experience? Is it as chaotic as some reviews make it sound, or does it just depend on the time of year? I’m curious about everything, check-in lines, baggage claim, the size of the terminal, transportation to and from hotels, even how early you’d recommend arriving before a flight.

I’d also love to know if there’s a big difference between domestic and international departures. Is it worth paying extra for a direct flight, or are the Athens connections smooth enough? Any first-hand details would really help me plan ahead for next year’s trip.

Great Walking Paths on Santorini?

I’ve been thinking about Santorini specifically as a place for walking, and I realized it’s something I don’t hear Greeks talk about as much as food, wine, or sunsets. I’m curious how people who know the island well think about walking it, not just as visitors passing through but as a lived landscape.

So I wanted to ask: what are some great walking paths on Santorini? Beyond Fira–Oia, are there routes you’d actually recommend for the views, the quiet, or the feeling of the island itself? I’m especially interested in paths through villages, near vineyards, or stretches that feel more local and less performative. Are there walks that feel better early in the morning, in the wind, or outside peak season?

I’d love to hear which paths you return to or remember most, and what made them stand out for you.

Santorini for an Anniversary Trip

A friend of mine is thinking about going to Santorini for an anniversary trip, and she asked me for suggestions. I’ve been to Santorini quite a few times over the years, but almost always as part of family trips, so my experiences there have been a little different from what she’s looking for.

She’s only been to the island once before and really loved it, so she wants to go back and make it a special anniversary trip with her husband. The problem is that I’m realizing most of my recommendations are things families tend to do, and I’m not as sure what the best ideas would be for a more romantic visit.

For those of you who have gone to Santorini as a couple, what did you enjoy most? Are there particular villages, hotels, restaurants, or experiences that felt especially romantic? I’d love to pass along some good ideas to her.

Where have you found the best traditional Santorini food?

I've been thinking about the food in Santorini and wondering where people have found the best traditional Greek meals on the island. There are so many restaurants with beautiful caldera views, but I'm especially interested in places where the food is the main attraction.

I'd love to try some of Santorini's local specialties, especially tomatokeftedes, fava, white eggplant, and dishes that highlight the island's agricultural traditions. I'm particularly interested in smaller family-run tavernas that serve authentic recipes rather than menus designed primarily for tourists.

Have you discovered any restaurants or tavernas that really stood out? Are there particular villages where you've had especially memorable meals?

I'm also curious whether you've found better traditional food away from the popular areas like Oia and Fira. I'd love recommendations for places that offer a genuine taste of Santorini, including any specific dishes worth ordering while visiting the island!

Is Santorini Walkable?

It has been a while since I’ve been to Santorini, and I’m thinking about going back in the early summer next year. One thing I’m trying to remember is how walkable the island really is.

I know places like Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, and Oia are good for walking around once you’re there, but I’m wondering how practical it is to rely on walking for a larger part of the trip. I remember there being some hills, narrow roads, and areas where walking between places might not be as easy as it looks on a map.

For those who have been recently, how much walking did you actually do? Did you find that you still needed buses, taxis, or a rental car most days? I’d especially love to hear from anyone who stayed around Fira or Imerovigli and explored from there.
