When I am visiting a place, I always look for some great street food to try. My last trip to Athens I remember the street corn, toast, koulourakia. I know I can just grab it when I see it, but I figured I'd throw the question out there just in case someone has any specific places to direct me to.

I have never been to Greece so late in the summer season. Will I maybe be able to find chestnuts at this time of year, as well?

You might be able to, but you'll find more of them in September-December. The best months will be October/November

Fresh tomatoes in fasolakia?

I need help figuring something out.

Whenever I make Fasolakia, I usually use some sort of a canned tomato product like sauce, paste, or even diced or crushed tomatoes.

I have a bunch of fresh tomatoes I want to use this time instead and I have never done this before. Any advice?

Top Greek Phrases to Know for Greece Trip

In an ideal world, I would be proficient in the Greek language ahead of my trip. Sadly, for me that takes a long time. Even though I started studying Greek and have been consistent, I am not where I want to be.

I am trying to decide on twenty of the most important phrases/ words to get comfortable with ahead of my trip, which is coming up.

Ευχαριστώ - Thank you
Παρακαλώ - Please
Ναί - Yes
όχι - No
Συγνώμη - Sorry
Το λογαριασμό παρακαλώ - The bill, please

I know these seem really basic but I am a bit gun shy when speaking other languages, and I really need to practice a lot. What else should I add to the list?

List of Greek Coffee Drinks

I heard that Greeks have different coffee drinks from what we have. Question - can you go to a cafe and also get some of the coffee drinks we are used to, like a cappuccino or espresso?

Anyway, what are the popular coffee drinks of Greece?

  • Greek coffee made in that little pot
  • Freddo
  • Frappe
Did I miss anything?

Food Tour of Greece?

I want to take a food tour of Greece, and I only really have time for one destination. Where do you suggest I go? Some possibilities:

- Stay in Athens the whole time
- Crete
- Ikaria
- Thessaloniki

Really, any place in Greece would be good I imagine! Is there a site that has actual guided tours? I know I could just go somewhere and eat and explore on my own, but I want to meet locals, maybe even cook with some people.

Favorite Greek desserts?

Do you guys have a favorite Greek dessert? Here is my list, in no particular order:

- Diples
- Revani
- Ek mek kataifi (I need to learn how to make this!)
- Kourabedies
- Milopita
