I am headed to Greece and want to visit some places I have never been, Monemvasia being one of them. I will also be in Kythira. I have to take a ferry to and from Kythira and need to somehow figure it out. I asked advice in another thread and it was very helpful.

I am starting to realize I might need a rental car in Greece while I am there. Do you think it makes sense to get a car in Athens and just take it all around with me? Can you take rental cars not ferries without issue in Greece?
 
You can take rental cars on ferries but you need to know the number plate of the car. So you need to rent the car first, then book the ferry tickets. If you are only going to one island, you are probably better off renting a car on the island. Yes, it will be more expensive but you save on the expensive ferry costs for taking your car. Check the costs for each and see what works for you. If I'm going to 2-3 islands, I will usually rent from Athens. If I am only going to 1 island, like I did last year, I will hire the car on the island.
 
Make sure you ask the rental company if you can take the car on a ferry. Most will not allow it because their insurer will not cover the car on the ferry.
I always rent a car at the airport the rental company meets me there. If I arrive late at night I stay at Sofitel and they bring the car in the next morning.
They allow me to take the car on ferries but I have to tell them before hand the island I'm going to . I usually stay in Greece for about 6 weeks so I rent the car for that period and hand it back at the airport on my departure date.
 
Is it an alternative to just leave the car behind and maybe not have a car on the online? I guess this wouldn't make sense if you're on the island for a long time and it would defeat the purpose of having a car...
 

Travel Tips for Naxos

I'm planning a trip to the island of Naxos soon and I'm reaching out for some guidance and tips.

First off, I've heard that Naxos is a haven for foodies – any recommendations on local foods I absolutely must try or the best places to eat?

Exploring the cultural heritage of Naxos is also high on my agenda. I understand there are plenty of historical sites and ruins that abound. For those of you who've wandered the island's ancient paths, which historical spots would you say I need to see??

Greek Islands Food Tour?

I am a foodie and I love to cook. Does anyone know of any food tour situations that I can do in the islands, or maybe island hopping?

I am in the midst of planning an exciting adventure to Greece and am particularly interested in experiencing the country through its cuisine. I've heard that island hopping offers not just stunning views but also a taste of local flavors that differ from island to island.

With so many beautiful islands, from the renowned Santorini to the charming Skopelos, I'm looking for recommendations on food tours or culinary experiences that are part of island hopping packages. Any recommendations you may have would be great!

Taking a culinary tour of Greece

I would like to take a tour or create my own itinerary to do nothing but visit Greece to eat all the food. I want to go to some unique and memorable destinations. For many reasons, both Ikaria and Crete are on my list. I will have maybe two weeks in Greece so I truly don't have the itinerary fleshes out. Or if anyone can recommend a tour company, that would be good too.

Some questions:

Best Time to Visit: What's the ideal time of year for such a tour, considering weather, food seasons, and avoiding peak tourist crowds?
Must-Visit Places: Besides the obvious choices like Athens and Santorini, are there any off-the-beaten-path locations that are a foodie's dream?
Local Experiences: Are there particular cooking classes, food markets, or local farms that offer a deeper dive into Greek cuisine and its preparation?
Travel Tips: Any logistical tips for traveling within Greece that might make moving from one culinary destination to another smoother?

Last-minute travel tips in Greece

I love to travel to Greece and I do so whenever I can. There's an art to it, though, and I am never really going into it "blind". It's a good idea to start by thinking generally about where you might want to go.

Athens is usually the starting point for most travelers, with its iconic Acropolis offering panoramic views and a history lesson all in one spot. If you're a beach lover, head towards the Cyclades for stunning beaches and the classic, postcard-worthy Santorini sunsets. Or, if it's history you're after, the ruins of Delphi or the ancient city of Mycenae will surely captivate you.

Then, we need to figure out how to get where we want to go. For island hopping, the ferries are an experience in themselves – though if you're time-strapped, consider a local flight to get you to the major islands quickly. On the mainland, a mix of car rentals and public transport can be efficient and economical, especially when visiting sites off the tourist map. Keep an eye on the schedules and book in advance if possible to save time.

Sometimes I rent a car, to be honest it's the easiest for me.

The rest of the details tend to sort themselves out. For example, you can book your lodging as you go along, especially off-peak.

Canyoning Bled Slovenia

Hi guys!!
I'm planning to take a group canyoning Bled but apparently, it is obligatory to use a local guide. I am a canyon instructor (caf and ffme), is this enough to supervise without anyone else? I have several years of experience (climbing and canyoning) and it is obvious that I will not be able to offer this destination if it is not possible.
