I don't know much about Zaimis that he was Prime Minister of Greece six times. I didn't know this part about modern Greek history, and I am truly very shocked. It's not very common that a political leader is reelected so many times. Does anyone know what was so special about him and that made him so loved by his people?

History of the Orthodox Church in Greece

I am trying to learn more about the history of the Orthodox Church in Greece. I know that there are some Bible passages that mention the Apostle Paul being in Greece, but I am not clear on the actual history.

For example, Ephesians was written about "Ephesus", which was part of Greece at that time. But, when I read the Bible I like to have more of an historical context. I am sure this information exists, I am just not sure where.

Seeing Ancient Greek Artifacts in the United States...

I just recently visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and bumped into a Greek exhibit. It was very cool... Whenever I am in a museum in the United States (or outside of Greece for that matter) I don't really think about seeking out the Greek artifacts.

The exhibit at the MFA was really cool, and it got me thinking about visiting other museums in other parts of the country. Are there any standout exhibits elsewhere in the United States related to Ancient Greece that I can check out? I would imagine cities like Chicago, New York, etc might have something?

Learning about Greek Independence Day

I want to start researching the Greek War for Independence - since Greek Independence Day is celebrated on March 25th of every year. I know that this is when we celebrate Greece's freedom from the Ottoman Empire. However, I recently learned that March 25th is actually when the war began for most of Greece, and in Mani I know it started maybe about a week earlier... This isn't what I originally thought, and it means that I don't really know much about it.

So, these are the topics I want to learn about - feel free to chime in with others I can research:
  • How did Greece come under Ottoman control in the first place?
  • How did the War for Independence really start?
  • Who are some of the main players for this war?
  • Are there some battles, etc that I should look up?

What is considered Modern Greece?

So, I always assumed that Modern Greece referred to the time period starting with the War for Independence.

Then, Ancient Greece, I always assumed, ended in BC times.

What about all those periods in between? Is this too simplistic of a way to look at it? How do people classify all the phases of Greek history?
