I've already booked my tickets to Greece for this summer but I want to book tickets to smaller islands within Greece. Can I use a travel agent to book this within Greece? Will it be helpful to do so or should I just book online?

Honestly people don't use travel agents anymore...there's not really a huge benefit to them unless you don't want to do your own research about the nicest places to visit in Greece

Having worked in Tourism in Mykonos I would use a local travel agent for sure...is still the best option when once in Athens for example, many professional Travel Agents giving superb advice and really depends on how much time have, the best rates also at the last minute booking, again depends on budget and requirements, there will always be a requirement for a travel agent.... especially in destinations like Greece where the inter island travellers depend on local travel agency all the time, get there and you will see what I mean, just pop in to a travel agency and you will be surprised how much information and knowledge they have....I have always travelled like that when I was younger.. Happy Holidays!

You can definitely use a travel agent while in Greece, but you can also pull off booking the travel on your own. All you need as an internet connection and a phone! Sometimes it does make it easier. Try to work with travel agents that have a good reputation. You never know what's out there!

That's true, I'd only recommend using a reputable travel agent. Just like it's important to use a reputable booking website.

So true! That is one of the reasons why I don't usually use the travel agent option. The few times I have, it was because of a recommendation fro someone I trust.

It seems that these days it's harder to even get recommendations for travel agents. Most have switched to other tourist jobs in the industry

Wow, I didn't know. It's been a long time since I have even tried to use one.

These days with covid and how the tourist industry is changing, especially in Greece everyone has to learn to adapt

That's so true. I haven't been to Greece since the pandemic!

I believe my family used a travel agent once to get a rental car and book a tour, and the experience was very good. More often than not, though, we tend to book our travel on our own. We often don't get a rental car before arriving in Greece, but over the course of the trip, if we figure out we need it, we book it then. We seem to get by on public transport when possible, walking, booking tours, and taking taxis.

Summer Island Hopping Tips - a Month in July

It’s been a while since I’ve traveled in Greece during peak season, and I’m considering spending about a month there in July. The plan is to split my time between Athens (to visit friends) and hopping to several islands. I’m excited about the energy of summer, but I’m also aware that July can be intense in terms of crowds, heat, and logistics.

For those who have done island hopping in high season, what worked well for you? Is it better to base yourself on one or two islands and take short trips, or fully move around every few days? How far in advance do you typically book ferries and accommodations in July?

I’m also curious about pacing. With a full month, I don’t want to rush, but I also want to make the most of being there. Any tips on routes, balance, or things to avoid during peak season would be really helpful.

Is Greece easy to travel around without renting a car?

I’m trying to figure out whether it’s realistic to travel around Greece without renting a car. I’d prefer not to drive if I can avoid it, especially since I’m not familiar with the roads, parking, or driving customs there.

For those who have traveled around Greece using public transportation, how easy was it? I know there are buses, ferries, taxis, and domestic flights, but I’m wondering how practical they are once you get outside the main tourist areas. Did you ever feel limited by not having a car?

I’m also curious whether it makes sense to rely on public transportation for most of the trip and just rent a car for a day or two when needed. Are there certain types of places that are especially difficult to reach without one?

I’d love to hear from anyone who has done a Greece trip mostly or entirely without driving.

Places to go for the first time in Greece?

A friend of mine is planning her first trip to Greece, and she asked me what she should prioritize for about 10 days. I’ve been lucky enough to go quite a few times, so I gave her a starting point: Athens for the history, Santorini for the views, and Mykonos for the energy and beaches.

She loved that outline, but she wants to add one more destination to round out the trip. That’s where I started second guessing myself a bit, because there are so many good options depending on what kind of experience she wants.

I was thinking maybe somewhere a little different to balance things out, but I’m curious what others would suggest. If you had 10 days and those three spots already planned, what would be your fourth destination for a first-time visitor?

Which Greek island feels the least touristy in the summer?

I know that July and August are busy almost everywhere in Greece, especially on the more famous islands, but I’m curious about places that still feel relatively local and relaxed even during peak season.

I’m not necessarily looking for somewhere completely empty. I’d just love an island where you can still find traditional villages, local tavernas, quieter beaches, and a slower pace without feeling like the entire island is built around tourism.

Have you visited an island in the summer that still felt authentic and not overly crowded? I’d especially be interested in places where locals still seem to set the rhythm of daily life rather than visitors.

Which island would you recommend, and what made it feel less touristy to you? Was it the beaches, villages, restaurants, fewer cruise ships, or just the overall atmosphere?

Best Way to Get a Car Service to JFK Airport Before a Flight to Greece?

Hi everyone, I'm flying out of JFK next month for a trip to Greece and trying to figure out the best way to get to the airport without the usual stress. My flight leaves early in the morning, and I don't want to deal with parking for two weeks or ask a family member to drive me at 4 a.m. I've been looking into booking a car service to JFK Airport instead of a rideshare, mainly because international flights need more buffer time, and I'd rather have a proper chauffeur waiting curbside than risk a driver cancelling at the last minute with all my luggage in tow. A friend of mine recently used Blue Nile Livery for a JFK run and said her chauffeur showed up early, helped load the bags, and tracked the flight the whole way, so she suggested I try them for this trip too.
I'm still trying to figure out whether it's worth booking the chauffeur service a few days in advance or if that's overkill for a domestic pickup, whether a sedan is fine or if an SUV is smarter given how much luggage most of us end up hauling back and forth to Greece, and if anyone has had a chauffeur reroute or adjust pickup timing because of a flight delay before an international departure. For those of you who fly out of JFK often for trips back to Greece, what's worked best for you, and is there a chauffeur service you'd genuinely recommend for an early morning run like this? Any tips appreciated!
