Mykonos is one of those Greek islands that just can't escape its reputation of being expensive. I love this video because it gives you an honest look at how expensive the island can actually be. As always, take it with a grain of salt because you can truly make anything affordable in Greece by being smart and planning ahead.

Excellent video Costa, terrific content coverage.... great blog! Grekotel in Psarou is one of the best hotels and extremely professionally managed..... They got lucky with €300 bill @ Nammos 😂😂😂The Taxis are the most Extortionately expensive...and no one has the power to challenge them!... I will add more later on... Thanks for your post!... Fillya

Wow, I always thought that I could barter in Greece, especially with the taxi drivers

Really?.... not in Mykonos.... here is a true story..a few years ago we arrived at Mykonos Airport with 1 hour to spare before catching our Ferry to Syros from Tourlos...in comes a Taxi.... now remember I lived in Mykonos for many years and I knew all the Taxi Drivers and all the people I knew were busy to assist us..!😂😂....he wanted €75 for 5 Kms? journey.... says Palikari Afto iney Timmy mu....in comes another one...he wanted €65😂....he recognised me and said Edho isey?....we had just arrived after 4 flights..and were exhausted......so comes the third one... this time from my village Ano Mera... recognises me .... says...Filey...ya Sena....€25....😂😂.....so the YouTube video and the taxi services they have in a limousine is excellent and exceptionally good...and it is from Grekotel...this makes all the difference!.... Kalley Mera...all good fun.... remind me to tell you about our experience in a taxi from Thai border to Siam Reap for 3 hours on a muddy gravel road... first time I saw windscreen wipers working full speed without water spray..!!. felt like we were in car rally!!...and our backsides very sore for a few days!!.. 😂😂
 
From what I remember, Santorini can be expensive. I recall the taxi situation is not prime for bartering because the number of taxis is limited - the island won't allow a lot. Supply and demand I guess. It's fun there, though! This is a great video, by the way.

Favorite Beaches on Mykonos

I know that people have mixed feelings about the beaches of Mykonos, but I plan to go this year. I've been in the past and wanted to share my three favorites:

1. Elia Beach​

  • Elia is the longest sandy beach in Mykonos, offering a less crowded experience. It's ideal for those who want to relax and enjoy crystal-clear waters.
  • Tip: Try the water sports facilities there — I don't enjoy it but my family members report that this is fun. They've rented jet skis.

2. Paradise Beach​

  • As the name suggests, Paradise Beach is lovely. It's known for the party scene, but during the day it isn't bad. They just play DJ music while you're at the beach, and there's a lively bar.
  • Note: Leave before the evening parties start if that's not your scene. I love the energy during the day but I have to be in the mood for the music.

3. Psarou Beach​

  • Psarou might allure you with its upscale vibe and excellent beachside services. It's all about luxury yachts, boutique shops, and high-end dining.
  • Recommendation: Don't miss the opportunity to snorkel in these beautiful waters. It's very serene here in general.

Learning Greek While in Mykonos?

Getting Around on Mykonos

I was in a Mykonos last year as a cruise stop, and I found trying to figure out how to get around to be very annoying. I couldn't find the bus stops, I didn't know how to buy a ticket, I had a hard time finding a bathroom on the way to the bus stop I finally figured out I needed.

I thought I would do some research. What could I have done differently? I found this video to be very helpful.

Things to Do in Mykonos at Christmas

I am thinking of heading to Mykonos this Christmas season to visit some people. I thought I would share some thoughts about what I can do there this time of year.

Christmas Markets

Like many other places in Europe, Mykonos also has its own version of Christmas markets. Wander around the charming alleys of the old town and discover festive stalls selling handmade crafts, traditional sweets, and local delicacies. The main market takes place in Manto Square, where you can also experience the lighting of the Christmas tree and carol singing.

Traditional Celebration

Christmas celebrations in Mykonos follow the Greek Orthodox calendar, which means that the main festivities are held on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. You can attend the midnight Mass at one of the island's many churches, such as the Paraportiani Church, or witness the local traditions of kalanda (carol singing) and feasting on traditional dishes like avgolemono soup and roasted lamb.

Christmas Shopping

There are some great shops on Mykonos. I can do my Christmas shopping here!

Advice for an extended stay in Mykonos

I plan to be on Mykonos for about a month over the summer and I honestly feel like I am a bit late to the party securing a rental for that long. I am not seeing much on airbnb.

That could change as more properties become available... I don't know.

Am I missing something? Are there other networks that people use when going to Mykonos that I maybe haven't thought of? I don't want to move mid trip but I guess I could. Like do a week here and there. It could give me a chance to see different things on the island.
