Hello! I suggest reaching out to anyone you know who's working or living in Greece/Athens. You never know who knows someone who can help you out or that works in marketing. In Greece, many people find jobs through word of mouth and people always hire friends of friends. It's not the most western way, but that's just how Greece works. If you don't know anyone, that's okay! You can also try looking for jobs on Linkedin and try searching by location. Good luck!

I’ve been looking into options too, and I found that with P72, the minimum income you can earn is $18,324. It’s legit and seems like a decent starting point, especially if you're new in Athens and just trying to get your foot in the door. I’d suggest checking them out if you haven’t already.

I see it's been a while since you've posted, but I'm curious—did you end up finding something in Athens? I'm currently thinking of making a similar move and trying to figure out if speaking some Greek makes a big difference when looking for jobs there, especially in hospitality or teaching. Anyone here have recent experiences with English-speaking jobs or tips on where to look other than Facebook groups?

I moved to Athens recently and found that having a specific skill helped a lot. I looked up "phlebotomy training near me" because healthcare jobs are always in demand, and it gave me a good starting point. Even if you're not planning to stay long-term, it can open doors quickly with clinics and labs. A friend found work faster just by having some basic training under their belt.

Is Anafiotika Worth Visiting?

I might be going to Athens next year, and Anafiotika is one of the places I keep seeing mentioned. It looks beautiful in photos, with the narrow lanes, whitewashed houses, flowers, and almost island-like feel right below the Acropolis.

For those who have been, is Anafiotika worth making time for during a visit to Athens? I like the idea of wandering through a quieter, more atmospheric neighborhood, especially if it feels different from the busier parts of Plaka and Monastiraki.

I’m also curious how much time you would actually need there. Is it more of a quick walk while exploring Plaka, or is it worth setting aside an hour or two?

Are there particular streets, viewpoints, little churches, cafés, or nearby stops you would recommend combining with it? And is there a best time of day to visit when it is less crowded and easier to enjoy?

Is the Athens Riviera worth visiting if you're staying downtown?

I'm curious whether the Athens Riviera is worth exploring if you're staying in central Athens. I've heard wonderful things about the coastal areas, especially Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and the beaches along the way, but I'm wondering whether it's worth taking time away from sightseeing downtown.

I love the idea of experiencing a different side of Athens, especially somewhere with seaside cafés, beautiful views, and perhaps a relaxing lunch overlooking the water. However, I'm not sure how much time I should set aside for it.

Is it realistic to visit the Riviera for just an afternoon, or would you recommend spending an entire day there? Also, is public transportation convenient, or is renting a car a better option?

I'd love to hear which areas are your favorites and whether you think the experience is worthwhile for visitors with limited time in Athens.

Day Trips from Athens Locals Love

I’ll be spending some time in Athens and would love to understand where locals actually go when they want a break from the city. I’m not looking for the standard tourist excursions, but the kinds of day trips people choose when they just need a change of scenery, fresh air, or a slower pace for an afternoon.

Are there nearby towns, coastal spots, mountains, or historical areas that Athenians return to again and again? Places that feel easy, familiar, and restorative rather than “must-see” destinations. I’m especially curious about trips that don’t require much planning or an overnight stay.

If you live in Athens or know the area well, what day trips do you personally love — and why do you keep going back?

Is renting a car necessary in Athens?

I’m planning to spend a few days in Athens this summer before heading off to the islands, and I’m trying to decide whether renting a car is actually necessary while I’m there.

Part of me likes the flexibility of having a car, especially if I want to explore beyond the main historic center. On the other hand, I’ve heard traffic can be intense, parking is limited, and public transportation is fairly easy to use for the major sites.

My plan is to see the Acropolis, wander neighborhoods like Plaka and Koukaki, enjoy some good food, and maybe do one day trip if time allows. After that, I’ll be taking a ferry.

For those who’ve spent a few days in Athens, did you rent a car or rely on walking, taxis, and public transport? Was having a car helpful, or more of a hassle than it was worth? I’d appreciate honest advice.

Is the area near Syntagma a convenient place to stay?

I may be taking a last-minute trip to Athens sometime in September or October, and I’m starting to look at hotel options. I keep seeing places near Syntagma Square, and I’m wondering whether that is a convenient area to stay.

I like the idea of being central and able to walk to a lot of the main sights, restaurants, and neighborhoods, but I also don’t want to stay somewhere that feels overly busy or touristy all the time. How easy is it to get around from Syntagma, especially to places like Plaka, Monastiraki, the Acropolis, and other parts of central Athens?

I’d also love to know what the area feels like in the evenings. Is it a good choice for someone who wants convenience and walkability, or would you recommend staying in a nearby neighborhood instead?

Any hotel-area suggestions would be appreciated too.
