I am very fascinated by Greek history, particularly form the Minoan Civilization.

I would very much love to visit Crete so that I can learn more and see where it all happened.

I found this video of a museum I would love to visit. You don't need to have the sound turned on, it's really about the images and all you'll hear is background noise. But, I still found it pretty interesting.

I love this museum, too. When I was here, I obsessed over the jewelry. Many were pieces that I would wear, and the pieces were thousands of years old!

Scenic Road Trips to Do in Crete? Advice?

I am curious about doing a road trip in Crete and would love some advice on the most scenic routes and must-see spots! I’ve heard the island is perfect for driving, with stunning coastal views, charming villages, and historical sites at every turn.

Some routes I’m considering:
  • Chania to Elafonissi Beach: Is the drive as breathtaking as they say?
  • Rethymno to Preveli Beach: Worth the detour for the palm forest?
  • Heraklion to Lassithi Plateau: I’m intrigued by the windmills and traditional vibe.
I’m also curious about lesser-known gems, like picturesque mountain villages or unique accommodations to stay overnight. Any tips on navigating Crete’s winding roads or favorite roadside tavernas?

Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations! What’s the one drive you’d say I cannot miss?

Unique nature spots in Crete?

Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip to Crete soon and while I definitely want to see some of the famous places like Elafonisi and Samaria Gorge, I’m also really interested in discovering unique, lesser-known nature spots on the island.

Are there any places you’ve been to that feel like hidden gems? Maybe a quiet beach, a lush forest, a scenic drive, or a peaceful gorge that doesn’t get as much attention as the big names?

I’d love to hear your recommendations for off-the-beaten-path nature experiences—especially places that feel untouched or especially magical. Bonus points if they’re good for a picnic or some peaceful walking.

Also curious if there are any interesting caves, natural springs, or mountain villages with beautiful surroundings worth checking out. Thanks so much!

Advice for Road Trip Across Crete?

I’ll be spending 10 days on Crete this summer, and I’d love some advice on planning a road trip across the island! My goal is to stay in a few different, notable places for a couple of days each, to experience as much of Crete’s unique charm as possible.

I’m thinking of starting in Heraklion to explore Knossos Palace and the Archaeological Museum, but where should I go from there? Should I include Chania, Rethymno, or the south coast? Any must-visit villages, beaches, or historical sites along the way?

I’d also appreciate tips for scenic driving routes and local restaurants to try in smaller towns. Is it easy to find accommodations on the go, or should I book ahead? I'll be going in early June.

Crete in September Tips and Advice

Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip to Crete this September and would love some tips and advice. I’ve heard it’s a beautiful time to visit—still warm, but less crowded than peak summer—and I’m hoping to experience the island a bit differently.

I’m looking for destinations that are a little more off the beaten path. While I do want to see some of the famous sites like Chania or Elafonissi, I’m especially drawn to quiet villages, hidden beaches, mountain drives, and local food spots that don’t feel touristy.

Are there towns or regions you recommend that have an authentic feel in September? Any special festivals or local events happening that time of year? I’m also open to hiking trails, archaeological sites beyond Knossos, or lesser-known beaches with a taverna nearby.

Would love to hear your personal favorites—thanks in advance!
