One of my favorite places to visit in Thessaloniki is the Church of Saint Demetrios. I heard he is the patron saint of the city?

When I went, I only just walked through and enjoyed the look and feel. I don't know much about it.

Would love to hear your opinions of this place, I will be passing through Thessaloniki in a few months and am hoping to catch a church Service. Last time I went, I just visited, there was no service going on.

I have never even been to Thessaloniki at all, but this sounds really special! Seems like this church is a great place. I tried to look for hours when it is open, and couldn't find it - only just a wikipedia page with the history (which is interesting, by the way). The church was constructed over the site of an old Roman bathhouse.

Is it scary to drive in Greece?

I have heard some horror stories of driving in Greece, but many of these stories took place in cities like Athens. Is this observation true?

The reason why I am asking is because I am going to be visiting Tinos soon and would like to rent a car to explore the island. I heard that this was a fantastic way to get around. Tinos is small, and to me this means the driving might not be bad.

I had a bad driving experience in Italy while in Rome, but once leaving Rome and entering the countryside it was totally fine. I'm hoping Greece is like this, too!

Breaks 12-month Short-term Rentals Record.

Yes that's all well and good....the downside to this as is all over the European destinations that there aren't any rentals available for locals, the rents are extortionate, the areas once neighbourly don't exist anymore!.....And with it arrives inferior quality travellers!

Best historical destinations in Greece?

So, I love history and I plan to go to Greece this year. I know I will be visiting in Athens and Crete. I will have time for one other place, but with such a distance between Crete and other places, I am not sure what makes sense. Some possibilities:

  • Explore mainland Greece after Athens and before Crete
  • Head to Rhodes after Crete
  • Visit Thessaloniki and the surrounding area after Athens and before Crete
  • Head to Santorini or Mykonos after Crete so I can visit Delos

Accessible beaches for everyone in Greece.

This is a major project and not going to happen everywhere overnight so to speak but it is a beginning very much needed for Greece!
