Are there many earthquakes in Kefalonia?

Does anyone know if there are more earthquakes on certain islands than others? I would love to visit Kefalonia but I have a huge fear of earthquakes!! Which places should I avoid?

Hi

Earthquakes are not uncommon on the island but in the main are low level and not necessarily felt across the whole island.

Obviously the earthquake in 1953 flattened 85% of the island but as a result of this the island has rigorous requirements for all buildings to be anti seismic.

The last earthquake that did more significant damage was in 2014 and mainly affected the Paliki.

Seismic reports can you usually predict an earthquake, right? I would just read current seismic information, or maybe even just try to put it out of my mind:

There are plenty of earthquakes in Greece due to the amount of fasolatha that is consumed.

Lixouri for a vacation apartment?

I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia next summer with a big group — family and close friends, around 8–10 people total — and we’re thinking of renting a large vacation apartment or villa. Lixouri keeps popping up as an option, but I don’t know much about it beyond being across the bay from Argostoli.

Is Lixouri a good base for a group stay? We’d love to be somewhere with an authentic Greek feel, good local tavernas, walkable areas, and easy access to beaches. We’ll have a few cars, so driving to other parts of the island isn’t a problem, but we don’t want to feel too isolated either.

For anyone who’s stayed there — what’s your impression of Lixouri? Peaceful and charming or a bit too quiet? Would you recommend it for a larger group vacation?

Fiskardo vs. Assos: Which Do You Prefer?

I'm considering a trip to Kefalonia sometime in the future and am still in the information-gathering stage. One comparison that keeps coming up is Fiskardo versus Assos. Both look absolutely beautiful in photos, but they seem to have very different personalities.

Fiskardo appears to be larger, with more restaurants, boats, and activity, while Assos looks quieter and perhaps a little more traditional. Since I haven't finalized any plans yet, I'm curious what people who have visited think.

If you had to choose one, which would it be and why? Is one better for relaxing and enjoying the scenery? Does one have better food, beaches, or overall atmosphere? Would you stay overnight in either location, or are they better as day trips?

I’m starting to plan a trip to Kefalonia, and while I know there are some famous beaches on the island, I’m much more interested in finding places that feel a little more off the beaten track. The kind of beaches where you might need to drive a bit farther, walk down a path, or just put in a little extra effort, but in return you get fewer crowds and a more natural atmosphere.

I don’t mind if there aren’t many amenities. In fact, I usually prefer beaches that feel untouched rather than highly organized with rows of umbrellas and beach bars. Clear water, beautiful scenery, and a peaceful vibe matter more to me than convenience.

Are there any beaches in Kefalonia that you’d recommend that fit this description? Maybe hidden coves, quieter stretches of coastline, or places locals tend to go?
