I'm all about nature, adventure and saving money! Is renting a bicycle a good idea? I wonder how the roads are in Mykonos and if people respect bikers. Any advice would be great! Thanks

Truthfully I don't know how to answer this question having lived in Mykonos for 25 years... but I wouldn't ride a bike there...the roads are narrow,if you decide don't even think about this in July/August, they are very impatient drivers,I don't want to mention how many fatal accidents I have seen in my time there..
There is only 1 main road which connects the whole island, some steep hills too. There used to be bike tours a few years ago but I don't know if they still do them. The next best option would be a 4 wheeler,or a motor bike....The best way would be to join a cycling club where the group would ride together, that would be advisable.

Unfortunately I've heard the same thing...the roads in Mykonos (and many small Greek islands) are just terrible

This is true,be safe when visiting, life is too precious to be hit by someone you might never see again....go with the flow ..... when you are on the islands, surely you will see bikes for rent, then no harm in just renting for the day and just pedal around to take in all the views, different than actually cycle tours or long distance alone or couple., you know what I mean!?.. Good day from Thailand..

Fantastic video.... Terrific content,I think I recognize the rider who has a bike rental.....The last downhill is one of the steepest slopes of Mykonos..... extremely dangerous if the bike looses control.....I know all the roads which will help anyone thinking of cycling along these narrow roads,in winter this would be heavenly.... Thank you kindly...Kalley Mera from Thailand..

Absolutely, renting a bike in Mykonos is a brilliant idea! It's the perfect way to embrace nature, have an adventure, and keep your expenses in check while exploring this beautiful island. Regarding the roads, Mykonos offers a mix of narrow lanes and more open routes, but they're generally bike-friendly. Locals are accustomed to cyclists, but it's still essential to ride safely and obey traffic rules for a smooth and enjoyable experience. Now, a little nugget of wisdom from my own experience – with bike theft on the rise, it's worth considering cyclist liability insurance. It can provide added peace of mind during your Mykonos adventures.

Truthfully I wander how many people would actually be physically fit to take on biking in Mykonos!😂....I couldn't cycle up the gentle incline up the hill followed by a difficult uphill climb.... not many people I knew could do this.... now towards Super Paradise or Agrari beach is seriously risking and life threatening.....the only roads which would be enjoyable are towards Ornos, Agios Ioannis, Paradise Beach,Platy Yialos, all along the port side roads,Peryfiryako..... behind the Airport area is very nice....on the road to Ano Mera and all around there....To Lia is nice,To Fokos is beautiful which is called Mauh!....The road behind Ano Mera which leads to the Airport is beautiful.....To Panormos and Agios Sostis is wanderful.... Happy cycling to all!

Exploring Little Venice in Mykonos?

I'm planning a trip to the enchanting area of Little Venice in Mykonos and I've heard so much about its stunning views and quirky charm. I'm reaching out to this community because I know there are a lot of well-traveled folks around here who could share their insights.

Can anyone suggest the absolute must-see attractions and activities in Little Venice? I'm interested in anything from historical sites, picturesque spots for photography, to the best places to relax and watch the sunset.

Also, any tips on hidden gems or less-known spots you can recommend would be great too!

Thanks!

Advice for an extended stay in Mykonos

I plan to be on Mykonos for about a month over the summer and I honestly feel like I am a bit late to the party securing a rental for that long. I am not seeing much on airbnb.

That could change as more properties become available... I don't know.

Am I missing something? Are there other networks that people use when going to Mykonos that I maybe haven't thought of? I don't want to move mid trip but I guess I could. Like do a week here and there. It could give me a chance to see different things on the island.

Getting Around on Mykonos

I was in a Mykonos last year as a cruise stop, and I found trying to figure out how to get around to be very annoying. I couldn't find the bus stops, I didn't know how to buy a ticket, I had a hard time finding a bathroom on the way to the bus stop I finally figured out I needed.

I thought I would do some research. What could I have done differently? I found this video to be very helpful.

Shopping from local artisans while in Mykonos question

I'm planning a trip to Mykonos soon and one thing I'm really excited about is exploring the local artisan scene. I've heard that the island is home to many talented craftsmen and artists, and I'd love to bring back some unique and authentic souvenirs.

However, I'm not quite sure where to start or what to look for when shopping from local artisans. I'd really appreciate any tips or recommendations from those who have experience with this.

Do you have any favorite artisan shops or markets in Mykonos that you would recommend? What are some typical items or crafts that I should keep an eye out for? Any advice on how to distinguish authentic, locally made products from mass-produced tourist trinkets?

I'm also interested in learning about any cultural or historical significance behind certain artisanal crafts on the island. Understanding the stories behind the products would definitely enhance my shopping experience.

Packing for Mykonos Trip

I am going to be in Mykonos mid-September. Is it still warm enough for some solid beach time?

During the trip we will also be sightseeing, going out for dinner, doing some boating (friends), and maybe renting jet skis or something like that.

Latest I have ever been to Mykonos has been mid-August. Is the weather in September that much different?
