Heard there was a Christmas market in Thessaloniki?

I want to do something festive this year in Greece. I am going to be in Thessaloniki for a short time and I heard that there is actually a Christmas market? Is it any good?

Do any of you have any details?

I heard the market is in Aristotelous Square, but that's all I know about it. I am assuming there will be vendors and things to buy - maybe I can do some Christmas shopping here?

I would track down the Christmas market and see what it's all about! They're fun, and you can buy your gifts there.

I'm considering spending a few days in Thessaloniki this summer and have started putting together a list of places I'd like to see. The major attractions are easy enough to find, but I'm especially interested in some of the lesser-known sights around the city.

I've read about the White Tower, the waterfront, and a few of the major museums, but I'm curious about places that don't always make it into the guidebooks. Historic neighborhoods, overlooked churches, interesting viewpoints, local markets, hidden courtyards, small museums, or anything else that gives a different perspective on the city would be great to hear about.

I'm also interested in places that locals enjoy but visitors might not think to seek out on their own.

For those who know Thessaloniki well, what are some of the lesser-known things to see that are worth adding to an itinerary?

I'm thinking about spending one or two days in Thessaloniki this fall before continuing my trip elsewhere in Greece. I've heard so many good things about the city, but with limited time I'd love to make the most of my visit.

Of course, I plan to see some of the well-known sights like the White Tower and the waterfront, but I'm also interested in the places that really capture the character of the city. If you only had a day or two, what would you consider absolute must-sees?

If you've visited Thessaloniki, what experiences stood out the most? I'd really appreciate hearing how you would spend a short visit in the city.

Is the Rotunda open to the public right now?

Does anyone know if the Rotunda is currently open to the public? I’ll be in Thessaloniki soon and really want to visit it. It’s one of those places that completely captures the city’s layered history. I’ve read that it’s alternated between being used as a Roman mausoleum, a Christian church, and later a mosque, which makes it one of the most fascinating monuments in Greece.

I’ve seen some recent mentions online about restoration work and limited visiting hours, but the information isn’t consistent. I’d love to go inside and see the mosaics up close if it’s possible.

If anyone’s been recently, can you share what the current schedule or entry process is like? Do tickets need to be booked in advance, or can you just show up? And is it still part of the unified archaeological ticket?

How hot is Thessaloniki in summer?

Because of everyone's schedules this year, we're going to Greece in July instead of our usual late summer trip. We'll be spending most of our time in the Thessaloniki area, and I've actually never visited that part of Greece in July before.
Hhow hot does it usually get? I know Greece is warm in general during the summer, but is the heat in Thessaloniki manageable, especially if you're walking around the city? Does the humidity make it feel much hotter, or does the sea breeze help at all?

We're planning to do a mix of sightseeing, wandering around neighborhoods, and eating outdoors, so I'm wondering if there are certain times of day that are better for exploring.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's been there in July. Any advice or things you wish you'd known before going would be greatly appreciated!

Is Thessaloniki walkable for a whole weekend trip?

It’s been a while since I last visited Thessaloniki, and I’m considering bringing my family there for a weekend this summer. We’ll be a multigenerational group, parents in their 70s, my wife and me, and two teens — so I’m trying to figure out how walkable the city really is these days.

From what I remember, the waterfront promenade was perfect for long, easy walks, but I can’t recall how manageable the rest of the city felt, especially when the summer heat kicks in. Are most major sights (White Tower, Ano Poli, markets, museums) close enough to each other to explore on foot without wearing everyone out?

Also curious whether public transport or taxis are convenient enough to fill the gaps if walking becomes too much for the older members of the group.

For anyone who’s been recently, is a mostly walkable weekend realistic for a family like ours?
