Many people don't know this, but there is a water shortage in Santorini. Do your part while traeveling there and be mindful of how much water you're using!! Try not to leave the tap on when you're not using water and don't waste water! You can read more about the water crisis in Greece here https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/partner-content-where-our-water-goes-greece
This is crazy....I had no idea that this was happening. Thanks for sharing, I'll be very careful next time that I'm in Greece

Wow, you're right - I had no idea! I guess I you think about it, it kind of makes sense, given that the water supply is limited on such a small island and Greece doesn't get a lot of rain.

This is so crazy, we take "running water" completely for granted. The water issue looks like it could become a huge problem. We all need to do our part!

The best restaurants in Santorini

Santorini has some of the best Greek cuisine! Ever since the tourism industry has been booming, chefs from all over the world have been visiting, opening up restaurants, and collaborating with Greek shifts. In my opinion, this is the island where you can get the most diverse and elevated cuisine. These are the best restaurants in my opinion, but please let me know your top pics. I would love to know.

- Ouzeri
-Almira
-Ambrosia
-FalafeLand (vegan)

These are just a handful that I can remember off the top of my head!

You should try the food while in Santorini!

I recently spent some time in Santorini and my one takeaway is that the food there is fantastic, especially the tomatoes. But everything is delicious.

I have been trying to replicate a dish - "domatakeftedes" - since I enjoyed them on the island I've been wanting to make them. Does anyone know what to do?

I think the ingredients are something like this:

- Ripe tomatoes (maybe grated)
- Feta cheese - crumbled
- Chopped Fresh Herbs - parsley, mint, maybe oregano?
- Flour or bread crumbs
- Egg? (recipes I have found online - some say to use egg some leave it out)
- Oil for frying

What do you guys think?

The donkeys of Santorini

These donkeys are famous! Hailing back from before Santorini was the biggest tourist hotspot, donkeys were used by locals to transport themselves and their goods up the hilly Santorini mountainside. Today, you may see a few donkeys used for these purposes but for the most part they are used for tourists to take a tour of the island.

These are the top two foods to try in Santorini!

Santorini has some of the best sunsets, but also some of the best food! The island has so many fantastic restaurants, many of which are taking a modern twist on traditional Greek cuisine. Two of the must try foods that are local dishes in Santorini are domatokeftedes (tomato fritters) and fava. Here are pictures of both dishes!

Is Santorini actually overrated?

I keep hearing this statement over and over....and I'm kind of confused. I loved Santorini when I went, as you can see in my profile picture. I loved riding the donkeys with my kids and exploring the island. I get that its crowded and a little overpriced but I think it was an unforgettable experience. I wouldn't have taken it back and gone to another island! What are your thoughts for those that have been?
