According to the Canadian Government website, there are certain areas that should be avoided when traveling to Greece, especially on particular days where there are demonstrations.

Demonstrations are usually held on days of social or historical significance, such as:
  • Workers' Day on May 1
  • the commemoration of the Athens Polytechnic uprising of 1973 on November 17
  • the commemoration of the riots of 2008 on December 6
In Athens, demonstrations and marches occur primarily in areas around:
  • Syntagma Square, in front of the Greek Parliament
  • Omonia Square
  • the National Technical University complex on Patision Avenue
  • Exarchia neighbourhood
In Thessaloniki, they occur primarily in areas around:
  • Aristotelous Square
  • Egnatia Street
  • the Arch of Galerius
  • the campus of the Aristotle University
As always, take precautions and be safe!

Yep, I definitely agree with that. All tourists should especially stay away from Exarcheia because that's where I live and I don't want any of those foreigners around! ;)

Ahahaha! Exarcheia is beautiful, but people must be cautious

Ah yes, my Athenian friend told me not to go to the Exarcheia square late at night. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I was there at 3am the previous night.

But anyhow, I was last there in 2019 and the current government and city mayor have vowed to "clean it up". I have noticed that some of my favourite restaurants have been gentrified so I won't be going there any more. Hopefully there will still be a few genuine venues left by the time I get there next month! Looking forward to finding out what has changed.

I didn't know there was gentrification even in Greece. So sad that this has now become a global phenomenon and culture is dying off everywhere and people are being pushed out of their neighborhoods.

This is a great tip. I have been to Greece during plenty of protests and strikes and as long as you avoid the hot areas it won't even be an issue. I didn't know about some of the hot spots on the list so thanks for sharing!

Exactly, if you exclude the city during these demonstrations, Greece is one of the safest places in the world.

I totally agree, I have never felt unsafe in Greece and I've been there during some tricky times. I was there for more than one of the bailout upheavals over the years, as well as several transportation strikes with public transportation not working, as well as the protests that were going along with them.

Family Car Services for First Timer in Boston

Hi everyone, I’m planning a family trip to Boston from Athens and was searching for car service from options airport to my hotel online. While exploring, I came across Blue Nile Livery. I also noticed their service is featured on Google and even highlighted on Forbes, along with positive reviews on several travel sites. Based on what I’ve seen there, their service seems good to me... Since this trip is with my family, I want something safe, comfortable, and punctual for airport transfers and city travel. I’d love to hear from anyone who has used a ride service in Boston. Do you think this would be a good choice for family travel?

Best Greek Destinations for History Lovers

I’m thinking about planning a Greece trip next year that is focused almost entirely on history, and I’d love some ideas for the best places to include.

Athens would obviously be part of the itinerary for the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, museums, and other archaeological sites. I’m also considering Delphi, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Olympia, and maybe spending more time exploring the Peloponnese. Meteora is on my list too, although that would add a different type of historical experience.

I’m especially interested in places where you can really spend time exploring rather than just stopping briefly to see one major site.

If you were planning a history-focused trip to Greece, which destinations would you consider essential? Are there lesser-known archaeological sites, historic towns, museums, Byzantine sites, or ancient ruins that deserve more attention? I’d also love suggestions for putting together an itinerary without trying to cover too much ground.

Why do some score tracking platforms show delayed match updates?

Been tearing my hair out lately trying to follow live matches because some score‑tracking apps update super fast while others lag like they’re stuck in another century. I’m talking minutes behind, not seconds. It’s driving me nuts, especially when I’m juggling fantasy leagues and friendly bets with my buddies. I keep switching between apps hoping one will magically work better, but no luck so far. Is this just bad servers, licensing stuff, or am I using the wrong platforms altogether? If anyone knows what actually causes these delays—or has app recommendations—I’m all ears.

Festivals of Note for 2026 in Greece?

My family and I are starting to think about a possible trip to Greece in 2026, and this time we’re considering planning part of the trip around a festival or cultural celebration. We’ve been to Greece before, but we’ve never really organized a trip around a specific event.

I know Greece has so many interesting traditions throughout the year. Because of that, I’m starting to gather ideas early while we figure out where we might want to go.

Have any of you traveled to Greece specifically to experience a festival? If so, which ones would you recommend? It could be religious celebrations, food festivals, music events, or local village festivals.
I’d love to hear about any memorable festival experiences that might help us shape our 2026 plans.

Places to go for the first time in Greece?

A friend of mine is planning her first trip to Greece, and she asked me what she should prioritize for about 10 days. I’ve been lucky enough to go quite a few times, so I gave her a starting point: Athens for the history, Santorini for the views, and Mykonos for the energy and beaches.

She loved that outline, but she wants to add one more destination to round out the trip. That’s where I started second guessing myself a bit, because there are so many good options depending on what kind of experience she wants.

I was thinking maybe somewhere a little different to balance things out, but I’m curious what others would suggest. If you had 10 days and those three spots already planned, what would be your fourth destination for a first-time visitor?
