"It depends when you go but in August the traffic is horrendous. We stayed within walking distance of Mykonos town and have honestly never seen anything like it. From the airport and from the port traffic was gridlocked, the scooters whining round and beeping were constant, the injuries on people on the flight were numerous. Our hotel owner driving an extremely battered car thought it was hilarious when my husband (a police trained driver) was the front seat passenger and kept wincing at near misses, “braking” as if he were the driver and was relieved we made it to the hotel alive. No pavements, drink driving, horns, shouting, gesticulating, multiple people on the same scooter - it was mayhem. Early evening when all the poseurs came out was the worst. But that’s just our experience as parents trying to protect our children. I’ve no doubt other people free to zip around have a great time! It’s normal for Greece!

I think it is very funny😂😂😂, especially about the Hotelier,I know which one,it is not appropriate to mention this here....Can you all imagine I had to work in these challenging circumstances? day in day out every day through out July and August......I had to plan meticulously when the ships arrive, when the Ferries docked, Cruise Liners anchored! ⚓ and came ashore, unbelievable congestion,.....I know all the short cuts and back streets, chasing in and out of lanes like a rally driver.... because my time was very precious as I had many responsibilities.....from 11am to 3 pm it is mayhem... oh how I wish I could work there all over again❤️❤️🇬🇷..... Then we have horrendous motor bike accidents, especially with the Italians who just came to Party and get drunk all day every day......all good fun!🇬🇷..

Packing for Mykonos Trip

I am going to be in Mykonos mid-September. Is it still warm enough for some solid beach time?

During the trip we will also be sightseeing, going out for dinner, doing some boating (friends), and maybe renting jet skis or something like that.

Latest I have ever been to Mykonos has been mid-August. Is the weather in September that much different?

Favorite Beaches on Mykonos

I know that people have mixed feelings about the beaches of Mykonos, but I plan to go this year. I've been in the past and wanted to share my three favorites:

1. Elia Beach

  • Elia is the longest sandy beach in Mykonos, offering a less crowded experience. It's ideal for those who want to relax and enjoy crystal-clear waters.
  • Tip: Try the water sports facilities there — I don't enjoy it but my family members report that this is fun. They've rented jet skis.

2. Paradise Beach

  • As the name suggests, Paradise Beach is lovely. It's known for the party scene, but during the day it isn't bad. They just play DJ music while you're at the beach, and there's a lively bar.
  • Note: Leave before the evening parties start if that's not your scene. I love the energy during the day but I have to be in the mood for the music.

3. Psarou Beach

  • Psarou might allure you with its upscale vibe and excellent beachside services. It's all about luxury yachts, boutique shops, and high-end dining.
  • Recommendation: Don't miss the opportunity to snorkel in these beautiful waters. It's very serene here in general.

Sightseeing Priorities in Mykonos

I will be in Mykonos for about 6-7 days but some of that will be taken up with a wedding and the related festivities.

I estimate I might have 4 full days to sightsee that don't involve the wedding. This isn't a lot of time. I will get at least one beach day, and I would like to get to know the island - its history, culture, etc.

Do you have any suggestions on how to prioritize?

How do you find the "good" parties on Mykonos?

I went to only one of the beach clubs on Mykonos and it wasn't really my vibe. Yet, I constantly see people partying in Mykonos and it looks fun and they're having a blast. How do these people find those parties?

My questions:

  • Are many of these parties private events?
  • Are there clubs away from the beaches that are known for their nightlife and DJs?
  • Are there different DJs that go to Mykonos? Maybe I can find out about the parties by tracking the DJs?
Another possibility is maybe the party scene really isn't my thing. I appreciate all your thoughts!

Advice for an extended stay in Mykonos

I plan to be on Mykonos for about a month over the summer and I honestly feel like I am a bit late to the party securing a rental for that long. I am not seeing much on airbnb.

That could change as more properties become available... I don't know.

Am I missing something? Are there other networks that people use when going to Mykonos that I maybe haven't thought of? I don't want to move mid trip but I guess I could. Like do a week here and there. It could give me a chance to see different things on the island.
