I'm planning a 1-week trip to Greece and definitely want to include Mykonos in my itinerary. However, I'm struggling to decide how to divide my time and what other destinations to include. Ideally, I'd like a mix of relaxation, sightseeing, and some local culture.

How many days should I spend in Mykonos to get the full experience without feeling rushed? Also, what other nearby islands or mainland spots would you recommend visiting? Any must-see attractions, beaches, or hidden gems in Mykonos and the surrounding areas?

Additionally, any tips on transportation between the islands and accommodation recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing your suggestions and advice to make the most of my trip!

Forget Mykonos, over rated and too expensive. Once was a nice island but not the tourist have taken over and prices for rooms and foods too expensive. If you want a good Greek experience visit Naxos (Hotel Grotta). Lots of villages and nice beaches. Naxos town has it all, too. And you can fly there as well for about $100 E. Paros would be next choice and want a real Greek experience stay in Lefkes at the the Lefkes Villages Hotel. Eat or book a room in Naousa. The main city is also a nice place with lots of tavernas. Rent a car or a four wheeler for sure on Paros , but a car on Naxos. 3 nites min. Do spread yourself too thin or you will not enjoy your stay. Nafplion is one of my favorite cities about two hours from airport by car. But Athens has lots to offer especially the Acropolis Museum and the National Archaeological Museum as well as the Acropolis. Walk around the Plaka with many places to eat and rest. Greece is a wonderful country. For such a short time i recommend one island and Athens and maybe a day trip to Nafplion and stop by Corinth Canal and maybe ancient Corinth as well. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

For a one-week trip to Greece, I recommend spending 2-3 days in Mykonos to fully enjoy its famous beaches, vibrant nightlife, and picturesque towns. This timeframe allows you to relax and explore without feeling rushed. Don’t miss iconic spots like Little Venice, the Windmills, and the charming alleys of Mykonos Town. For beaches, visit Paradise, Super Paradise, and the more serene Agios Sostis.

After Mykonos, consider spending a couple of days in Santorini for breathtaking views and historical sites, or head to the nearby island of Delos for a day trip to explore its ancient ruins. Alternatively, Naxos offers a mix of beautiful beaches, local culture, and authentic Greek cuisine.

For transportation, ferries are the best way to island-hop, and I recommend booking accommodation in advance, especially during peak season. Look for boutique hotels or Airbnb options for a more personalized stay.

Also, Mykonos is a little frustrating and overrated, like Lee said. You may want to consider some of those suggestions instead of going to Mykonos!

Syros....the island to visit!

The best ancient ruins beyond Athens?

Everyone knows about the Acropolis — it’s magnificent, no question. But Greece is filled with other ancient sites that deserve just as much attention. From the mystical energy of Delphi to the massive ruins of Mycenae, every region seems to have its own ancient heartbeat.

Some travelers swear by Olympia for its peaceful atmosphere and connection to the first Olympic Games. Others say Epidaurus, with its perfectly preserved theater, is an experience unlike any other. And then there’s Vergina, where you can see the royal tombs of Macedon — haunting and awe-inspiring.

I’m curious: which ancient ruins outside of Athens made the biggest impression on you? Did you feel a special energy, or were you struck by the landscape surrounding them? Share your favorite sites, hidden gems, or photos from your travels through Greece’s ancient past!

Can someone help me explain to someone filoxenia?

There are certain concepts that are so deeply woven into who we are as Greeks that they almost defy translation, and filoxenia is one of them. It’s something we just know. I had a non-Greek friend ask me to explain it the other day, and I found myself pausing. How do you describe something that’s more of a feeling than a word?

Is it hospitality? Kindness? Generosity toward strangers? Yes, but it’s also more than that. It’s opening your home, your table, and your heart without expecting anything in return. It’s treating a guest like family, even if you’ve just met. It’s an instinct, a pride, a reflection of who we are.

So I’m curious, how would you explain filoxenia to someone who’s never experienced it?

Summer Island Hopping Tips - a Month in July

It’s been a while since I’ve traveled in Greece during peak season, and I’m considering spending about a month there in July. The plan is to split my time between Athens (to visit friends) and hopping to several islands. I’m excited about the energy of summer, but I’m also aware that July can be intense in terms of crowds, heat, and logistics.

For those who have done island hopping in high season, what worked well for you? Is it better to base yourself on one or two islands and take short trips, or fully move around every few days? How far in advance do you typically book ferries and accommodations in July?

I’m also curious about pacing. With a full month, I don’t want to rush, but I also want to make the most of being there. Any tips on routes, balance, or things to avoid during peak season would be really helpful.

Why do axolotls stop eating suddenly, and how can I figure out what’s causing the problem?

Hey there! So my little axolotl, Mango, has suddenly decided food is the enemy and I’m kinda freaking out. He used to chow down like a tiny vacuum cleaner, and now he just stares at his worms like they insulted his mother. I’ve checked the water temp, did a partial change, even tried switching up his food, but nada. I’m still pretty new to axolotl care, so I’m worried I’m missing something obvious. Has anyone dealt with this before? I just wanna make sure my lil dude’s okay. Any advice would seriously help me out!
